Thinking sell on Ebay !

Dear Ebay seller,

Just write down my thinking about sell on Ebay, someone can give me advice or need to find down an better place to sell.

I work on Ebay over 20 years. Every single item I sell, Ebay get money from me for sell fee + insert fee ...My money used to go direct to my paypal bank and I can control, right now Ebay control and hold and I will belong to them too. (Ebay charge Sell fee 13.25% + Insert fee is too much ?)

Every year we (seller) don't have any bonus, pension or discount from Ebay, They think they fair enough and never listen to seller "what they want". (because we don't have any contract for  worker!)

I am now old and will retire and has nothing on Ebay. Anyone has good ideal for an good place to sell and fair for us to save more money?

Thank you

Re: Thinking sell on Ebay !

I think that you will find that most selling platforms are very similar. If the fees vary, then there is usually some other issue.

Re: Thinking sell on Ebay !

You don’t work for eBay, that’s why you don’t get bonuses or a pension.

You buy ad space and payment processing from eBay. As an infrequent seller, eBay does hold your payment to ensure the funds are available should a buyer file a dispute.

Suggesting other places to sell goes against the discussion boards’ policies, but you might also find most other legitimate online selling platforms have similar processes.

Re: Thinking sell on Ebay !

Pretty sure no online selling platform is going to give you a pension or bonuses.  A tad unrealistic.

Re: Thinking sell on Ebay !

EBay has not used PayPal as the financial processor since they moved to managed payments. If you do not have a checking account linked to your eBay account eBay has no way to process your funds. The FVF's have not increased all that much under managed payments. Prior to managed payments the fees were split between eBay and PayPal but totaled about the same.

If you want to continue to sell on eBay, you currently have 37 active listings, you need to get your account linked to a checking account so eBay has a way to pay you. I would advise ending all your items until you have your account setup correctly. I would recommend a separate checking account for your eBay transactions it makes things easier from a record keeping perspective and at tax time.

As for selling on other sites there are 100's out there but all have about the same policies. You are in a HUGE metropolitan area you may want to try selling on some of the local forums/venues like Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. You can lower your prices a bit since there are lower, or no, fees and both you and the buyer do not have to worry about shipping costs or damage since generally everything is a person to person exchange.

Its very easy. Just open your own shop where you can dictate how you spend your money and where its spent.

Well it may not be that easy but the cost of doing business on Ebay is small compared to what other options are out there with the reach Ebay has. IMHO

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Re: Thinking sell on Ebay !

When you sell on eBay you are Self Employed, meaning you work for yourself.
You pay fees to eBay for the use of their site to sell your products.

New and infrequent sellers will have payout hold to ensure you gain strong  selling skills and have happy customers.
You are dreaming if you think eBay pays a bonus, pensions to sellers.
Sellers can get a 10% discount on seller fees, but only if the seller meets a certain criteria. That being you must be a Top rated seller, you must offer free 30 day returns and have same or 1 day handling time.

Re: Thinking sell on Ebay !

Much of what you currently have listed could not be offered on Amazon unless you are an authorized reseller, buying from the manufacturer or its authorized wholesale distributor. You will be required to provide wholesale invoices to be approved to sell the brand before you could list.

You would have to offer a broader return policy there.

I cannot think of another marketplace site that you could count on enough interest on to survive.

So it is run your own website, advertise and promote it to create traffic and expect a many month long delay before you are profitable.

Re: Thinking sell on Ebay !

eBay is not a charity and they do not incur $1.25 billion in expenses every quarter so that you can sell for free.

+ insert fee

IMHO you should not be paying insertion fees on every listing you sell. I have 1200+ listings on six selling accounts and I have not paid an insertion fee in a decade.

Every year we (seller) don't have any bonus, pension

No other venue will give you a bonus or retirement benefits either. Bonuses and retirement benefits are for employees, so if you want them from eBay you will need to apply for a job there.

They think they fair enough and never listen to seller "what they want".

eBay sets the terms for the use of its site, just like any other venues does. And you are free to not use the venue if you do not like the terms.

(because we don't have any contract for worker!)

You do not work for eBay. You work for yourself, and you use eBay as a tool.

Anyone has good ideal for an good place to sell and fair for us to save more money

None of the other sites will give you a bonus or retirement benefits, and most of the good ones will charge you a fee to use their site.

As far as whether you will save more money, that is a lot more complicated than which site you pick and what the fee percentage is. if you make $25K on another site that is free and "listens" to you instead of making $50K on eBay with 13.25% fees, are you better off?

Re: Thinking sell on Ebay !

I work on Ebay over 20 years.

You've SOLD on Ebay for 20+ years.

Every single item I sell, Ebay get money from me for sell fee + insert fee

Did you expect something else?  Ebay provides you with a site that reaches a worldwide audience.  This service has value.  It just didn't happen without investment by Ebay.  Of course they should be paid for services rendered.

If you are paying insertion fees, then you need to re-evaluate how you are listing.  Many if not most sellers haven't paid insertion fees in years.

...My money used to go direct to my paypal bank and I can control, right now Ebay control and hold and I will belong to them too.

Since you are a regular seller on the site, the only holds that happen to your money is while there is an active INAD, INR or Chargeback and the roughly 24 hours or so after payment is made Ebay has to get the literal money from the buyers payment source into your MP account on Ebay.  So if you are experiencing holds beyond that, details please because something else is happening.

Every year we (seller) don't have any bonus, pension or discount from Ebay,

I'm guessing this is just a joke as these kind of benefits are normally only extended to employees, which we are not.

They think they fair enough and never listen to seller "what they want". (because we don't have any contract for  worker!)

We are NOT a "worker" for Ebay.  We HIRE Ebay to be our site in which we set up and sell our stuff.  We are customers of Ebay.

As to listening to sellers, that is rather hit and miss especially in the last couple of years.  But they do sometimes listen to us however it can take a bit of time to get things changed.  There are however many changes that have happened over the years that were driven by sellers insisting on changes on certain things.

But yes, there are many things we say that fall on deaf ears.  It is also important to realize that sometimes some sellers are asking for certain changes that simply are not realistic or beneficial to the site as a whole.

I am now old and will retire and has nothing on Ebay. Anyone has good ideal for an good place to sell and fair for us to save more money?

That is something you should do your own research on as it has to fit your specific needs.  There are certainly other sites out there.  Some have lower fees and some have higher fees.  Some have good traffic some do not.  You have to decide what is most important to you.
