Thief: taking something that is not yours

I'm an 18yr, 100% rated Ebayer. Rapidly became disabled and lost my hands and arms thru spinal trauma. I've always counted on eBay so felt comfortable listing my auctions in an attempt to survive. Success; sold $1800 worth of equipment, all shipped the next day, passed along tracking numbers, and communicated with buyers as usual. Ebay then restricted my account, cut off all other auction items. All buyers paid, but I have not seen a cent. I paid for the shipping, confirmed they received the product, and now after a solid week, I still have not seen one penny. As a stellar seller and buyer, I caution all to the big bully in the room. The mgt must despise disabled people because I did nothing wrong. After 18yrs I think I get how things work. Each and every phone call for customer service for the last week has gotten nothing resolved except now they say i'm well above average in my ebay activity. Yes, ebay must love my donations to their bottom line. Thou shalt not steal must not resonate with the management.

Re: Thief: taking something that is not yours

As others have shared, e-Bay only knows you are registered as a Seller.  They have no idea your backstory as a human being, nor could they.  We do not complete a health or disability questionaire when we set up our Selling accounts, nor do we update our status as it relates to the disabilities you outlined.

I do think e-Bay needs to tell a Seller, BEFORE they list a high value item, that there is the potential of a payout hold.

Often times, Sellers who sell infrequently, try to sell a little at the Holidays.  Holds typically exist if you are not selling regularly, as well.

Good luck as you work thru this.  Another of life's challenges that we all potentially deal with

P.s.  Every Seller wants their money "now", regardless.  No one gets an immediate payout and even regular sellers are subject to payout holds on high-dollar items.  No disability required.

Re: Thief: taking something that is not yours

As someone else indicated, I do wonder if you have enlisted in Managed Payments. Even so, $1800 in sudden sales I am sure sent up a red flag somewhere.

That said, I believe eBay has a 110% responsibility to notify clearly in plain, specific English (or whatever language) when funds are held, for what reason, what the expected time of release, and anyway that release can be expedited. eBay's communications tend to be overly generic and vague. Can in point, when eBay takes my monthly subscription fees I get note saying the made a withdrawal and never says what it was for. How hard is that???

Re: Thief: taking something that is not yours

i’ve been buying and selling here for years. Nothing on my end has changed. I still routinely reach out to buyers & send tracking numbers. As usual the buyers all paid, ebay took their cut but then kept all the funds so i had to finance the shipping and did. Now all the buyers have received their auction items. On my end, i had set up all auction items and ebay dropped them all, pulled off site. Because of my hand issues it’s extremely painful to use a mouse and re-doing the ads won’t happen. I’m taking 100% of my items to sell to another platform and will also just use Amazon or a neighborhood pawn shop because i lost all trust in ebay

Re: Thief: taking something that is not yours

As mentioned, until your recent sales, you havent sold anything in over a year..your funds will be held. If there are any problems with your items sent, Ebay prefers a refund comes out of your pocket not theirs. You wouldnt be the first seller to have been left positive fb, then a snad case filed. You didnt have to finance your shipping, it can be paid with pending payments. You can scroll down to the left on the payment page to see this. I do wish you good luck with other platforms, tho Amazon does use a form of Managed Payments too, and has for a long time.

But an awful lot has changed on eBay's end in the last 12 months the biggest being no more Paypal for sellers since eBay started managing payments - so long as you are set up correctly for MP then it will just be  a new seller hold as explained above ^^^^

Re: Thief: taking something that is not yours

You don't have to front out the shipping. It took me a few sales after Managed Payments kicked in, and a request for help from this forum to figure it out. On the left hand bottom of the label form, there is a box to check for the shipping to come out of held funds.  I know this doesn't help you now, but it's the way to go if you decide to sell in the future. And once you check the box, it stays that way. Good luck to you.

I’ve been on Ebay as a Seller and Buyer for over 20 years. I have not sold anything in a few years but still purchase consistently enough. I tried to list today and found that my account was restricted! I went through CS Chat for assistance and was told that in order to sell, I would have to post my checking account information into my account, regardless of whether I have all my payments run through PayPal. I find this VERY unsettling and left the chat because I was THAT uneasy. This is ridiculous! If all payments, to and fro, go through PayPal, why then do I have to give this personal information over to Ebay? This makes no sense to me. If any feels the same and I was right for not giving my information, please let me know, OR if you have had to do the same and can explain to me why it’s is being asked, needs to be done in this way and that you feel it is genuinely a safe step, I would appreciate your time very much. Thank you!

and P.S. I find it out of line that Ebay restricted this disabled gentleman’s account, completely out of line and very unethical.

Pay Pal no longer processes the payments for Ebay.

To sell and get paid, you have to sign up for Managed Payments, providing a checking account and the last 4 of you SSN.

The restriction has nothing to do with them being disabled. They would have done it, disabled or not.

Have a great day.

@maxine*j

(You can keep posting that, but it changes nothing: It applies only to site accessibility.

eBay does not have different selling or buying policies based on disabilities.

Whatever the reason for the hold on OP's funds, that hold will not be removed because he is disabled. Nor was it put there because he is disabled, despite his accusation.)

Did you miss this part of my post.

Assistance does not = you don't have to follow our policy's an I never said it did.

Re: Thief: taking something that is not yours

Sorry.   Since you won't take my word for it, ask eBay's legal department:  All the stuff you keep quoting refers to issues with site accessibility.

No one at eBay is trained to assist members who are disabled and demand, based on that disability, to be given special consideration in matters related to buying and selling policies and processes.

You started with a hold and now are restricted???

18 years old and how old were you when you registered????

"Feb-24-03 in United States"

might just be your problem...

Also Refer to rule No. 1:

if you can not afford to lose of the item and money paid for it and shipping: do not list it on the Internets.

“...mgt must despise disabled people.” What a cruel, viscous statement to make about any company! And, please explain how eBay would know any member is disabled. Sites like eBay have, no doubt, been a godsend to millions of disabled people.

Re: Thief: taking something that is not yours

sorry for your situation,

it is not the item sold related, Ii 99 % suspect is the problem of verification of the personal info, address, bank thing from their AI. Ebay doesn't tell anyone the reason is because they don't want you to 'bypass' their verification filter. on ebay official website, they says they still allow seller continue to use paypal if they choose to. and ebay just don't welcome new seller to use paypal.

I just wanna tell the current seller who has no any problem so far, it seems like the suspended situation is getting worse or who knows you may be treated like that as well. more experienced seller with 100% feedback are affected as well. I think those affected sellers deserve a good reason of suspension explained, or handled it with more empathy and sympathy.

If one or 2 cases, it is ok, but if there is a trend that more account getting banned with no reason explained, on top of their technical issue on 12/3, ebay has to check their own side.

1.  How could a seller bypass this verification? Answer = they can't because they won't get paid.

2.  A seller can no longer receive funds via Paypal - your information is misleading and incorrect.

3. Of course they don't let a new seller use Paypal - if they did the seller will never get paid.

4. If a seller is affected by not having managed payments, not much eBay can do until the seller supplies information.

5. eBay knows their own side, it is people like you giving incorrect information to other seller's that confuse the issue.

Please don't post unless you know what you are talking about.

Re: Thief: taking something that is not yours

If u don't understand me because of my word choice of grammar is bad, i apologize.

Fact is clarified by open discussion, but when you say "Please don't post unless you know what you are talking about.". Sounds you are using fact to close someone's month and freedom of speech. and what a shame that you don't even read my word carefully.

1.  How could a seller bypass this verification? That shows you don't know what the suspended sellers suffer, I talked to ebay cs, and they use it as a reason of not telling seller why they get suspended.

2.  A seller can no longer receive funds via Paypal - Open your eyes --- is NEW seller

3. Of course they don't let a new seller use Paypal - Well I agree with you, and i respect this part of the policy

4. If a seller is affected by not having managed payments, not much eBay can do until the seller supplies information.-- SEE! you don't know what's the stories behind the most victims are talking about. They are talking about even they passed the micro deposit, provide the ID, all information etc, in another post a victim even talked to the superior, the superior said ID is just not clear, the seller still got banned even after resubmitted another one! Please read more what these sellers complaint about first.

5. eBay knows their own side, it is people like you giving incorrect information to other seller's that confuse the issue. --- IT IS PEOPLE LIKE YOU DON'T READ THE STORIES CAREFULLY AND DON'T THINK DEEPLY. But I were not you, I am still happy to see everyone to discuss. Even though may be no result, at least we all know we are knowing what is happening. you feeling confused because it seems you don't read sufficient and necessary amount of information. BUT I am still welcome to see your post because that's your RIGHT.

When I opened the another account for new category of items, the new one got suspended. why? i don't know. some of my ebays friends having similar issue too and we all get the similar answer from cs.
