There's slow and then there's really slow

O.K, I know this subject has been discussed to death, but really, what has Ebay done now. This past week has been absolutely lights out as far as sales go. With each passing day any type of activity has dwindled down to nothing. It is actually scary, what is happening. I now feel like any sale is a fluke/miracle. Has this past week achieved a new low level of feeble sales activity for you, like it has for me? I want to know if this is site wide, and even though sales have sucked, if this is a whole new sucky level. I didn't want to have to take the extra time to list on competing platforms, but it now seems absolutely necessary for survival.

Yes, this has been a very slow week. What I did to combat this was bring in the 1.00 auctions to bring buyers into my store. Yes, I lose money on the auctions but hopefully the generated sales will cover the loss. 🤔😊

Agree. Left for Buyers!

While selling items at a loss may work in a brick and mortar store - I would think it would have the opposite effect online.  Buyers would see the difference in price between your auctions and your fixed price listings, and would think your fixed price items are over priced.

Good luck

God I hope you are wrong. You say I have only 2 listings. Is that what it showed when you looked at my seller name/store? If so, that proves the point, as I have ~ 215 active listings.

Re: There's slow and then there's really slow

The same thing is going on with me. I had a fluke sale a couple days ago, but it's been lights out since the 2nd after having spectacular sales since November 7th, minus the three 0 sale days between the 13th and the 15th of November.

Everything just came to a grinding halt out of the blue. Something weird is going on, I know i shouldn't be shocked by it, but here we are.

I looked at your sales history and you are indeed experiencing an odd sales drought like me. Something is fishy.

That's because you're a relatively a new seller, they give y'all more quarter. I've been here selling for awhile and my sales have tanked but I started to take notice in all of the accounts with less than 200 sales and it appears that eBay's doing a little favoring by giving them more exposure. I can't be for sure because observations don't make proof but what I'm seeing is the possible evidence that it does exist. If so, it's a bad business model.

I actually made a sale yesterday-Yes it's true. Crickets chirping today. Be interesting to see if my Monday/Tuesday surge pattern occurs,i sure hope it does.

Yep. I've been on and off eBay for about 10 years, and this is definitely the worst I've ever seen. It's so bad that I actually had to Google "eBay slow sales" that took me to your thread!

Since you revived the post, I had to chime in. Had a few decent days earlier in the week, but now I feel I am once again invisible. I listed quite a few yesterday and today, and nothing. It really feels like a waste of time. Without consistency (of sales), it just isn't worth it. I feel like I could list a $100 dollar item for 99 cents and it would just sit there. Ridiculous.

Re: There's slow and then there's really slow

At this point, I’m thinking ebay has messed with the search so much that there are too many layers or something because I hardly see anything when I search anymore. Used to I could search and gobs of an item would come up; now a few scrolls, max. I really think the search has gotten so tight that we’re only seeing a fraction of whats actually out there. At least compared to before the July 2018 app update for me anyway. The searches seemed to change with that update and have gotten only worse, in my experience.

Re: There's slow and then there's really slow

Okay. I have to throw my theories out the door. I just did some research. My category has 30% more products than it did this time a year ago. So, when I factor that in, I’m actually doing pretty good to only have this one super slow week. I didn’t check anyone else’s category, but mine has seen a huge influx of product, which, if the number of buyers is around the same or less, that would explain the slow, especially if a lot of product is coming on line at once this month. Anyway, I have to back off my theories on it being search weirdness. Basically, feeling very grateful for my repeat customers & I’ll just keep doing what I do. List!

Re: There's slow and then there's really slow

It feels like I have to work 3 times harder to get fewer and fewer sales. Shipping costs, fee costs, supply costs, and lack of shoppers are just killing us. Forget about profits, it's about covering our losses at this point!

I moved from Santa Clara recently, and I know quite a few people (including my ex-husband) who worked at the eBay headquarters and earned over 300K per year. I would always tell them how hard it is for us sellers whenever eBay changes its policies and impose some new fee on top of already high fees. Every time they do that, many sellers end up leaving, resulting in fewer profits for eBay. Unless the sellers are practically giving their stuff away, buyers are also turned off since prices are higher for them too.

The eBay 300K+ earning employees are always surprised how I know so much about the user end, and I always tell them that they need to bring it up in the executive meetings. It's funny how the people that earn the most at eBay have no clue about how much it sucks for the people who do all the work to help pay their big salaries.

@vivyscloset

Working for a large SP 500 company I can tell you first hand that those 300K execs do not care one bit if a small Ebay sellers makes a dime or not. They also just looked surprised as it does not matter them what you said. As long as people are buying, regardless of who, there will never be some magical change to let everyone sell evenly. Many sellers are doing fine and selling thousands of items a day and that is all Ebay cares about.

Re: There's slow and then there's really slow

Honestly, it might be safer to dapple in the stock market than play Russian Roulette with eBay. Years ago eBay might have been a more stable venue to depend on to supplement ones living, but NOT anymore. eBay is not a venue to depend on, but a venue to use for spare change!

I use eBay to sell items I do not want to donate or are too nice for a yard sale. Trinket items are lost here as they come in droves..but maybe the rare hard to find items can sill bring a sale or two. The Chinese market has a surplus of trinket..junk so no need to compete with them.

Other venues are hard to establish yourself, and takes some time to make a turn around.

eBay is on their way out not their way in, and their best customers (sellers) are taking the heat!

I wish I could offer a solution, but unfortunately I do not see one readily available.
