While this represents a great opportunity and announcement the site has to do better at letting Sellers actually sell things that are in high demand at reasonable prices ... masks (handmade or manufactured), toilet paper, wipes, etc..

No it does not start the subscription over. A subscription is for one year. You can upgrade anytime you want without change [other than store fee]. It is downgrading that is the issue when you have a one year subscription.
LOL now if this was just over on MY thread I started for this reason I could mark it the solution. cause this is what I'm gonna do, till at least July then see if I get that letter or not before I upgrade it back to Premium.

Before you do anything, make sure you confirm what your store subscription renewal date is.

This is part of a post that I put on another thread. See if it helps you.

Your store renewal date is the same as mine. May 1st. So we are both in our final days of our current subscription which makes it time for both of us to make the decision of what we want moving forward. Once we make that decision we need to adjust our store subscription right away so there isn't any timing mix ups in getting it implemented.

Also keep in mind that dropping down to a Starter Store may be to much of a downgrade. There are benefits, ones I find important, that you lose when you go to the beginning store level. For me it would cost me more money to drop that low. So you have to consider everything when trying to decide what level store is right for you.

Is the reduced FVF percentage important to you?

Shipping supply coupon?

Terapeak fee?

Etc.

You need to look at what you need and what you want carefully. And decide for yourself

For myself, I do use the Ebay shipping supplies. So while if I decrease my store level to a Basic Store for 3 months I would save $114 I would lose $75 in shipping supplies [well with Ebay prices] so that is a net savings of $39 over the 3 month period. I don't think the up side is big enough for me to make such a move. I'm likely to keep my store at the level it is at.

Changing store level also changes your renewal date when you're on an annual subscription. @cynthealee2

My only concern would be the unknown which is this-- would dropping a level or 2 to take advantage of the 3 month savings mean a drop in VISIBILITY?

I honestly could not speak to that. That sounds like an unspoken unseen invisible punishment. That would be pretty unethical of eBay if they implemented that tactic.

ekmadonna, I don't think you would see a meaningful reduction in visibility. I've seen people claim that store level IS a factor (one of many) in Best Match ranking, but I've also seen claims that it is definitely not. My guess is, even if it is a factor, it is not a very significant one.

I went from Premium to Basic and now to Starter and never experienced any change in visibility - my sales carried on the same. In fact, not soon after I went to starter I had an uptick in sales - had nothing to do with store level, I just had renewed a bunch of listings. ETA - my sales had dropped at the onset of the virus but it wasn't until a month later that I changed to a starter store, sales have been creeping up again, but I haven't listed new items for weeks now.

In my case, I'm not concerned about the slight rise in fees or lack of terapeak, which in about 12 years I've never found of much use, anyway (I used to have the paid version) mostly because of what I sell. I can pick up a supplies credit from someone who doesn't need theirs, but I'm stocked up anyway. I may go back to Basic at the end of the summer (I used to close my store completely during the summer and not touch eBay until I had to go to full time).

Ugh - I'm thinking in sections - the notes upthread about benefits lost from downgrading is very good info, though, and something to consider - it just wasn't an issue for me. I didn't mean to discount it, though.

@mr_lincoln Looks like I am out of luck on this one - again! All 2 x 200 free listings I have received for April ran out for relisting existing items, maybe with a handful of new listings in-between - so before April 15, all 400 went POOF!

Are they saying in this announcement that we will receive new 200 free listing promos, or only that if we have any free listings left, those can be used till end of July? I have rad the part of the announcement for non-store subscribers at least twice, but cannot be certain. Or maybe it is just the late hour.
