Another rant on how we, sometimes, are punished by the actions of others, and Ebay blames us for it.
I have been a friend of the USPS for a long time. But this year alone, they are in their 3rd attempt to make me fall into the category of haters for the way they do business with us.
I go to a specific post office, some clerks know me, I am always joking, and making fun of their "good service". They answer back to me in a jokingly way.
Before last Saturday, April 6, I went in there and joked again about Media Mail making it "there" next day. Then, I disguised my complaint by joking that the last Monday I had dropped a first clase package but it was scanned there 27 hours later, not that evening, no! Next day!
So, I dropped a Priority Mail large box, insured for more than $500 and I joked about it being delivered next day Sunday. They replied jokingly "did you know it will be delivered on Monday"? since it was a 2 days delivery.
I left with the satisfaction that I had shipped hours after being paid.
To make it short. I put a claim for a missing/late delivery package on last Friday. I got a call from Los Angeles PO office clerk that they were looking for it, probably sent to the wrong office, even though it showed out for delivery. They promised to find out what was going on.
Then, last Saturday, a week after I dropped it there, I brought the tracking number with big numbers printed on a piece of paper to the "manager" and he told me the internet there was sooooooo slow he couldn't help me. I left him the information, but he promised me he would look into it. My phone has not received a call from both Los Angeles and San Jose's offices.
What's worse? I tried to fill out a claim, it asked me for proof of value. I tried to upload a picture of the things in the lot, nah! It has to be a 2MB size thingy. Dang it! So much incompetence in only one case!

Sellers are at the mercy of the post office! That should be a no brainer for eBay!!

Who insured the package? If it was USPS and is not found they will only pay what the buyer paid for the item and you must show proof of purchase price. You should provide insurance info to buyer and let them deal with it on their end.

I only had one (1) pkg "lost" that cost me $75.00 plus shipping that I refunded to change carriers - to date, I still do know if the pkg was delivered to the buyer or just disappeared over CO. I switched to FedEx, but now w/o my vehicle, I use USPS 😞 IMHO FedEx has better tracking from the time I dropped off up to and including delivery. W/O my vehicle, I walk the pkgs to the PO and pray.

I used to work in the huge PO mail processing plants where thousands of packages and millions of pieces of mail are processed every night and they don't care about your packages. I've found priority mail boxes that were mailed a month ago sitting under a desk, the workers would play basketball with packages and throw them in the boxes for their destinations like they are basketballs. I would hear stuff break and shatter. The PO is horrible.

I insured the package. but, you are right, if no solution, I will let the buyer do it. Too much of a headache, I am feeling so **bleep** off as of now. Thank you for the advice.
But, there comes the trick question. I tried to initiate the claim, I was supposed to show proof of value. But, how can you prove value when the only value is given by the customer or buyer paying for an item that you don't have a receipt for. And, I tried to upload a picture, anything, no! It has to be a 2MB document, or something.
What **bleep** me off that I had one guy in Los Angeles promising me to look for it, and another supervisor at the PO I dropped the package off to look into that matter on Friday and Saturday. I can say that they may be too busy, or they simply know the tricks of you forgetting about the issue.
I have the mail carrier in my block checking into it tomorrow morning.
I am very loyal to anything, but once I am "betrayed", believe me, they can't have a better enemy, subjectively speaking.
Tomorrow, I will go to the post office. And it won't be a pleasant visit, I promise you that. Respect is deserved, or earned in my world. No, that doesn't mean I will go postal. I've had better things to get mad at to go ballistic.

Did the buyer actually open an INR case?
04-15-2019 08:12 PM
I have had a few items from the west coast and east cost delayed due to spring flooding. Their site shows service alerts for various states. It is possible that some center went down and mail had to be rerouted and it may take some time to get to the truck or bin your item is in and process it through a sort. I had a item that had to go over the Mississippi river last week and there was like 5 days there was no activity on it but it still came in. The post office even says that their time frame is a estimate and due to various conditions it can be extended. Most of the time they are right on time but now and again it can take longer. It is highly doubtful this is because a postal employee is mad at you and getting revenge for joking around with them.

No. I had called her and she said her uncle was the one buying the items to go to Indonesia. She is aware of the mishap. I hope she receives it even without being scanned and doesn't open an INR.

Oh no! Those guys joke with me all the time, no hard feelings. The package made it to the office in L.A. But it went from out for delivery to back into the postal office and then to awaiting the scan of being delivered.
I believe the package was delivered and the mail carrier forgot to scan it. Or, got stolen from his truck, or, who knows.

Thanks for the information!
That adds some value to the debate. They may be having problems with distribution. And into the mess, one or two packages get lost or stolen.
The zip code the package was being scanned from is 90065.
Thank you!

Why on earth would you poke the sleeping bear if the buyer never even contacted you to say anything was wrong?

I would not leave insurance to the buyer. They can file an insurance claim and get a payout and also file on eBay and get a refund from you. Insurance is for the seller, not the buyer. If it comes down to an INR being filed put in the USPS insurance claim immediately- then refund the buyer. Don't give them the opportunity.
You can prove value by taking a screenshot of the eBay order page and uploading it. 2MB is probably the limit and you can't upload a file larger than that.

I mailed a 1st Class Package last Tuesday, April 9. It was never scanned. I traced it several times a day. I went to the post office on Friday, and they admitted it had never been scanned. Today, finally, it was scanned when it arrived in the destination city. This was its first scan! It was somewhere moving along in the system, but never scanned! Thank God my customer was patient!
