The History of eBay

I know this may only appeal to the dinosuar sellers, but has anyone had a chance to see the history of eBay on eBayinc.com?

It was kind of cool to reminisce. I remember the transition from Auctionweb to eBay, as well as the homepage filled with blue link text.  It was such a exciting and simple time.

@tobaccocardyahoo

It's ironic that the Payments by Ebay system is much like a credit card merchant account,

I like getting my weekly "paycheque", although I do find it annoying that I can't wait until I have built up enough to cover my monthly payments. Still since the bank account those monthlies come from is the same the weeklies go into, it's an annoyance not a problem.

I think that Managed Payments has also had an effect on hijacking of accounts, since the need to have a bank account in the same country as the registration and the demand for secondary identification, specifically SSNs for US -based sellers, makes it more difficult for the scammer to get paid.

Great points.

I would just add that you could set up your Payouts to be once a month so your money could build up.  If during that month it reaches an amount you'd like to get transferred to your account, just change your Payout date to one that allows it to get sent to you in the next few days.  I would suggest changing it to daily and then once the transfer happens, go back and change it to monthly so it can build up for you again.  Just a suggestion.

I always had daily payout on my merchant account, and now on Ebay Payments. Never had any longer timeframe or on demand payments. It has been a very long time since I needed to wait for deposits to cover my bills.

There were some tough times when we had various other businesses, but after our first "successful" business we were never short of capital. Even when we closed a business because it had run its course, we did not try to hang on long enough to lose what we made.

Re: The History of eBay

I think what they meant was so the amount being transferred to their bank was enough to cover some bills.

Ebay's MP transfers money very quickly for most sellers.  However for those that use smaller local banks it can take a little longer.  For me, I use a major bank and when my money transfers I have an email from my bank notifying me that the deposit has arrived in less than 24 hours.

For anyone that doesn't get an email, most banks have various setting you can select on their website when you log into your account.  There are some good security setting as well as notification that you might find useful.

Re: The History of eBay

Member Oct 1998. With two small children it was a dream to sell things without setting up at a 5 am for a week end flea market. My youngest sat on my lap while I listed. I remember right before ebay restricted feedback  it was scramble on some of the boards to give friends positive feedback.

My husband, a computer guy, one day said to me "I signed you up for Ebay (first I heard of it!), and made you an email account and a godaddy  account (to load -up photos).  It took me a long while to list learning basic html code. If I had known my husbands chosen email name and ebay account name would be with me for  all these years I would of paid closer attention to what my husband conjured up. ha ha.

Interesting point. I too would never have learned HTML if it wasn't for eBay.
