Please, report here if you recently within a week or so experienced sudden drop in sales. We can then ask Velvet to pass it on to technical team for review of the accounts. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Updates-are-happening-to-some-item-specifics-and-category/m-p/...

My Retro video Game sales have plummeted as well to zero sales in the last 2 months.
08-09-2022 11:39 AM
How can that be as i thought video games were still selling like gang busters
08-09-2022 11:55 AM
lol- thats the problem- everything is selling great everywhere else - we are just missing out on it here at ebay because they royally screwed something up in the updates this spring/summer.

After updating (ending / creating new campaign PLS - 2x - something went wrong 1st time I did it didn't take right) upped my elections 1/2 percent and since got few sales but main thing is my PLS impressions are way up, between 1,000 - 5,000 - they were down approx 10,000 from normal when all this started - thinking maybe all this no sales is on purpose to get sellers to elect more PLS? Just a thought.

From the tactics that this company has done in the past - I would not doubt it.

Yep, this is something I've reported in the past, and what fuels my advice for sellers.
There's a "target level" of investment that eBay has for each category. If you're investing above or below that level is like hitting a switch on or off.
And it is *not* related to how much other sellers are investing in PL. It's just a level that eBay will begin giving impressions.
Which, btw, is similar to how PLA works as well.

it was never this way before (for me/my campaigns) - I believe what I originally said - ebay changed something in PLS - surely they changed algorithm(s) but this would require more then just algorithm being changed, they might have changed how it promoted based off the election rate chosen - likely to get it more close to their ridiculous "suggested rates" noticed a lot of mine went from 1-2% to 3 - 3.5% when they raised the min election rate to 2% - and I could be wrong - of course - but seems closer you are to their suggested rate the more "likely" a sale will be - and that is what I call Stealing From Sellers - because the items sold fine prior on lower rates, no one in their right mind would elect their suggested rates so in order for sellers to comply - they just made it so like saying "OK, well, don't, but if not, no sale for you"
So instead of ebay getting 12% FVF - or 14% with past PLS elections now they get 15% + $0.30 - and people wonder why prices are increasing along with postage rates - thanks ebay - that's the way to drive sales lol

We had a sudden drop in the April/May timeframe. June and July were even worse.

That is dirty business tactics for sure!

Yep, this was something that happened to us before others.
I don't know exactly what determined why it happened to us before others - this is something I'd wished to have answers for. Is it because we're a larger seller? Because I've spoken with others who sell in our same category and they didn't have the same thing happen.
But for us it's been this way since 2020. And our graphs looked EXACTLY like other sellers in our category when they did the recent 2% change.
It seems you have to have an average of 3-4% to really hit that "switch" I'd mentioned. And as mentioned, that's simply how it's been since 2020 for us. And at the time, eBay's response was that it was a test - this is directly what eBay had said about it.
For some in our category it was the same, for others they didn't have that sort of investment required - until recently, that is.
Honestly, I think it would only be fair if eBay had an answer as to why we had been required to invest a higher percentage for PLS performance than other sellers. Will they actually respond? Highly doubtful...
People sometimes think the things I try to bring attention to are far fetched. But it seems that they give us "tests" before these things become normal for the rest of the community.

Yup. And to be completely honest, it boggles me as to why there's so little said about these tactics. I could understand years ago when there was just a sample set of people having it happen. But even nowadays when it's more mainstream, there's still people using the same tired old defenses that could be debunked (even eBay staff...)

Basically, this is deceptive trade practices. Ebay claims that promoted listings are optional. However, they have defacto adjusted the algorithm to minimize impressions for sellers that don't promote listings .
Calling something optional, but then cutting off all sales unless a seller coughs up an additional percentage to ebay is deceptive. Ebay knows there is no way to actually prove that they have done this. However, it's very obvious that ebay has programmed this cutoff into the search results alogarithm.
It's not absolute, so they still have plausible deniability. Basically , ebay is manipulating the platform to ensure sellers are forced to participate in PLS.. This is a race to the bottom. Amazonization of ebay.
Only sellers willing to fork over a large percentage of the total sales price (which already includes tax and shipping)can afford to pay a higher and higher percentage to ebay.

Well I would say, what you already did in this last reply, ebay used your account as a test tool. And yeah, ebay DOES do that, the only thing is that they DO NOT tell or ask you, they simply make changes that seller never seen "behind the scenes" and seller only knows (at least has suspicion) when their sales get knocked off track and it lasts through an extended amount of time - then seller goes fishing for answers, hits community, looks to see if others are having same issue(s) and eventually has to the piece the "proof" together themselves all the while ebay stays silent, even if you call. It's not the first case I have heard of them using someones selling account as a test board, but then when sales go to the dirt due to it they should take responsibility and reimburse the seller those loses (of course they would never admit to something in such case).
@zamo-zuan oh..lol, believe me, been there, done that too! People love to deny things that are so bluntly obvious - for whatever reason give 'em - but no one, no but the seller knows their sales and their market better then THAT seller. Sure people can argue and disagree - fine, it's a community and everyone is entitled to share their thoughts, opinions and knowledge - doesn't mean any of it is correct or reflective to YOUR experience. Just like on the thread closed recently particular member trying to tell me I had only 9 sales in 4 months because they did a search for my "sold" items and that search shows 9 items...well, so it must be correct - lol, it wasn't even close sales in 4 months were actually in thousands of dollars and over 100 sales for way more items then ebay shows on that silly search - which has never been correct for any seller - ebay does that on purpose for privacy reasons. But people go look at that and believe it's correct and can't be wrong... total rubbish!
Anyways, what ever, doesn't matter, point is those who QUESTION and take the time to INVESTIGATE will find it's not so always cut and dry - ebay does a lot of things no one ever knows about, and never could, we don't have access to behind the scenes stuff and can't believe everything ebay makes a "statement" about either, a lot of times it's just wind blown up everyone's pipe.
08-10-2022 08:08 AM
Well when eBay even admits it's a "test" and it ends up with us having to pay MORE than competitors do, that's them knowingly and intentionally not even placing us on a level playing field.
