Starting August 2024, HTTP EPS links will not be supported. What needs to be done?

I'm getting this message on hundreds of my listings when I relist. Not at all sure what to do about this, if anything at all. Any advice is appreciated.

  • eBay Picture Service (EPS) URL links are now required to be HTTPS links. HTTP links are converted to HTTPS links right now. Starting August 2024, HTTP EPS links will not be supported.

Can you give an example of a listing where you are seeing this message.

@allthingsbrooklyn,

I haven't tested this myself, but try this tool in the Seller Hub. It is supposed to identify non-secure http issues in all your listings. Maybe this will help.

I thought they required that years ago.........?    Wasn't there all kinds of trouble with photo bucket and some of the other picture hosting sites?

One issue with Photobucket / self-hosted images was the pictures could be changed after the sale.

The "fix" may be as simple as adding an "s" to the HTML link in your html code view of your description.

Example:  <a href="https://www.ebay.com/....

However, if you have "hundreds of listings", then make yourself comfortable. 😕

They are doing this to prevent cross-listing photos to other platforms.  Photos are now being coded into HTML and not jpeg/gif.

When did eBay announce this move specifically to prevent cross-listing to other platforms?

I have not received a notice nor found an announcement regarding this on the site.  My photos are jpeg/gif which I took myself on my trusty Canon camera, edited and uploaded into the appropriate listing.

Anyone know?

Far as I know sellers are free to copy other sellers listings including photos.

I guess I'll just get comfortable. I have 14,000 listings. Looks like about 30-50% of my listings have that message.

I only see it when I manually relist/ sell similar. There's a small blue triangle at the top right corner of the picture box. When I click on it the message appears.

OK. Are you uploading the images from your computer/phone or are they hosted online somewhere? If online and the host is not https there will be an issue going forward.

Or are you trying to link to an EPS image to place in your description area, if so and you are not using a https link in the description then it will fail going forward.

If you are not doing either of these things......well I'm not sure.

I use a camera to take my photos and really don't care if someone copies them. I sell OOAK vintage prints. I'm just concerned that ebay will take them down or some of my photos will disappear. I have thousands of listings with multiple photos per listing. I couldn't possibly redo or even add something to all of them.  Am I okay if I do nothing at all?

Tried the tool.

"You currently don’t have any listings with HTTP content."

Maybe that will change on August 1, 2024 🙂

I'm not sure how to answer this. I'm not that computer savvy.  I upload pictures from my camera to my laptop computer, and then to a storage stick. When I list an item I upload the pictures from the storage stick. I don't use any outside service. I've been doing this exact same thing since 2006. I've noticed missing pictures on some of my oldest listings from time to time but I always use at least 8 pictures so there always seem to be at least a few left.  But this http thing is way beyond my capabilities. As is "an EPS image."

@allthingsbrooklyn

Don't think you have to worry about EPS images from the way you obtain and post your photos.   From Google:

EPS stands for Encapsulated PostScript, a vector image file format that's commonly used in graphic design and the print industry. EPS files are made up of lines and curves instead of pixels, which makes them ideal for logos, illustrations, and other graphics that need to be resized without losing quality.
Adobe Systems developed the EPS file format in 1992, and it's become a widely used format in both print and digital media. EPS files require specialized software to open and edit, such as Adobe Illustrator, PaintShop Pro, EPS Viewer, Adobe Reader, or IrfanView.

http may refer to images imbedded in the description (that are hosted elsewhere) and come from a site without the SSL designation of https
