Standard Envelop program expanded to Postcards, stamps, coins, paper money

(wky chat on this subject on Wed)

In January we introduced the eBay standard envelope through eBay Labels for Trading Cards sellers, with trackable shipping on items below 3 ounces for under $1. We’ve expanded the shipping service to Postcards, Stamps, Coins & Paper Money, giving you a more secure way to ship than with a stamp.  With tracking integrated into the label, and with automatic tracking uploaded to the order will help you meet the qualifications for Top Rated Seller.

eBay standard envelope benefits

eBay standard envelope saves you up to 70%* off competitive services and is the lower cost way to ship small, lightweight items.

You also get:

  • Standard-size envelope convenience
  • Drop-off convenience at regular USPS locations or in your mailbox with a raised flag for USPS pickup.
  • Discounted shipping rate not available at retail locations
  • Integrated tracking automatically uploaded for you and your buyer - acceptance scan not required
  • Shipping protection plan up to $20 on single items and up to $50 on combined items, in case of loss or damage
  • Integrated tracking and shipping protection meets requirement for Top Rated Seller eligibility

Price comparison: eBay standard envelope and USPS First-Class Package Service

When you sell and ship items in eligible categories that weigh 3 ounces or less, you’ll save up to 70% compared to USPS First-Class Package Service. For example, two vintage postcards inside of a standard A10 sized envelope weighing half an ounce, will cost $0.51 with delivery anywhere in the US.

Envelope size requirements

Envelope dimensions, thickness and weight need to be within specific parameters to ensure cost is under $1. We’ve created a downloadable PDF template here for you to check most sizes and thickness.

  • Minimum envelope dimensions: 3.5” x 5”
  • Maximum envelope dimensions: 6.125” x 11.5”
  • Maximum thickness of sealed package: .25”
  • Maximum weight: 3 oz.

eBay standard envelope complements other recent eBay shipping services including eBay international standard, QR Code for eBay Labels, weekend handling times, and our UPS collaboration. We're continuing to develop a spectrum of original shipping solutions that address your specific needs, support your business, and protect you when you need it while still delivering a great shopping experience for buyers.

Very glad to hear that. Looks like I'll be listing some postcards in the near future.

I have seen posts by a lot of sellers complaining about things not getting scanned, getting defects for late delivery / non-delivery because the 'system' doesn't seem to be working.  And support is absolutely no help.

I wonder what a 'guided'  discussion is....hope we can ask questions because I have a few...

This sounds great but in reality the sports card roll-out has been flawed from the beginning.  I might give it a shot for post cards but not for coins.

How about just giving us a "stamped envelope" option in tracking..... Seller takes the risk of no tracking. I am OK with that.....but this should not be held against me on my seller rating. Maybe this makes too much sense though....

When this program rolled out for trading cards, I was excited and hopeful for it's expansion. I sat back, waiting to hear from other sellers, about their experience. I also sat back and listened so I could figure out exactly what this program was.

After getting a much better understanding of the program, and listening to other seller talk about it, NO WAY am I using it. This is NOT USPS tracked shipping. You do NOT get a delivery to the door, tracking.

Not going to put myself or my seller rating, through that junk. Not going to be screwing around dealing with INR's and refunds.

Would be a good program, if eBay actually gave seller protection, but the truth is, they don't. You are no better off then just sticking a stamp on an envelope.

TOO many nightmare stories not just on ebay but on sportscard forums.

Post Offices refusing the envelopes unless more postage is paid. Refusing to scan. Things never getting any scans & then getting Never received cases opened. Damaged items & the so called insurance is nowhere to be found. Etc Etc Etc.

The implementation between ebay & the USPS has been horrific to say the least.

I guarantee you the USPS would not have acted this way if this was amaBOZOn. ebay is not taken seriously or respected by the USPS.

Could they please include Sports Pocket Schedules, same size as most sports cards, we would love to see this.  Thanks and happy selling.

I have been using the Standard Envelope program for my trading cards and have been very happy with it so far.  Took me a little while to get comfortable with the post office not being able to scan, but so far I've only had 1 that scanned OK when mailed but did not scan when delivered.

It's nice to see that eBay has expanded the program to include the postcards, stamps, paper money and coins.  I wish that they would extend it to collectible greeting cards, too.  I could send several greeting cards for under 3 oz. in the standard envelopes.

The weekly chat team should pin their notice about this shipping method chat on the "shipping" board to help those with shipping questions.

Tried the Standard Envelope for the first time yesterday. Used a 6 x 9 envelope at a weight of 3 ounces and was charged $.71. Thought that seemed low and was just informed by our local Postmaster that not only would my customer receive the item as postage due, but there is no tracking! I thought there was supposed to be tracking, but was told the number on the package was not a valid tracking number. Did I misread or do something incorrectly?

@boco81

It is apparently NOT a USPS tracking number.  You can see the tracking in your eBay account or use:

https://www.trackmyshipment.co

Since these tracking numbers may not show "delivery" (the closest approximation seems to be "out for delivery")to the buyer, sellers are apparently still on the hook for any INR claims.  Apparently, ebay expects you to refund:

"From time to time, eBay standard envelope shipments unfortunately may not track all the way through delivery to your buyer. If your buyer opens an “Item Not Received” request, please work with them to issue a refund in a timely manner. In these cases, you may also consider raising a claim to recover your lost funds."

Not sure what you did wrong, but yes, you did something wrong. Best to be informed before you try doing this. Best to read this...all of it...including the FAQs.

When you created the listing, did you provide the standard envelope as a choice (or , better yet, the only choice for the shipping?)

Lot of good it does. Asked the question a while back and got an earful. Check it it out here,
