Sri Lanka Posts

Does anyone know why the community is being flooded with posts from Sri Lanka?

If they are not legit concerns, they distract from other posts that need answers

I don't know if I should be taking the time to answer them or take a pass

They are under the impression that they get feedback or "seller points" if they post which will increase their chances of selling legally despite the PayPal selling restrictions. They don't care about the answer and doing so only fuels it.

Re: Sri Lanka Posts

Do you know why they 'suddenly' think that?

Did PP just recently do those restrictions?

Thanks @Anonymous

Re: Sri Lanka Posts

Yes, we know.  It is because they have been told, ususally by the same people who also sell them / set them up with dodgy PayPal accounts, that activity on these boards -- posting, replying, giving and getting Helpfuls, and thus earning Badges -- is the equivalent of feedback and establishes them and gives them visiblity and credibility as sellers.  Untrue, but they will not be dissuaded.

Take a pass... this is a waste of time and takes away from time spent with real sellers with real questions.

This person, or group of people, have been told on this forum with dozens. if not hundreds of times, that we cannot help people from Sri Lanka. But they keep flooding this forum with the same agenda asked in a slightly different way each time.

Look on youtube.  There are a bunch of videos on "how to get rich selling on ebay from Sri Lanka".

As @maxine*j it's the people that "set them up" with the PayPal accounts

AFAIK, Sri Lanka has never allowed Sri Lankans to accept payments through PP. It is the Central Bank of Sri Lankan that prohibits it. Why, I am not sure.

I think it would be a good idea to stop responding to their posts.  We know why they post and that the questions are not legitimate.  We know they cannot sell here legitimately and that when they try to, they never manage more than a few sales, if any, before their accounts are shut down.

In a way, I suppose they are as sinned against as sinning, in that they're sold dodgy PayPal accounts and fed a line of lies and nonsense about how eBay works.  Nevertheless, I think from here on out I'll treat their posts with the attention they deserve:  Zero.

Re: Sri Lanka Posts

I started noticing them probably about a year ago over on the New To Ebay Boards .. Getting Started mostly. Asking all the same questions and ignoring all the answers given to them

Then when those boards got closed recently they all flooded over here.

Re: Sri Lanka Posts

They are so easy to spot and most of the time I know it is Sri Lanka before clicking.  I respond pointing out the facts.  Some who used to do that are now making a joke out of it.  It's what we all want to do!!

Re: Sri Lanka Posts

I think I've seen more posts from people asking why people from Sri Lanka are posting here.

And they post here because they can.

You have posted here asking why they are posting here because you can.

Simple as that.

Re: Sri Lanka Posts

You can, of course, respond any way you choose.  Personally, I've decided today to ignore those Sri Lankan posts.  They either do not read the answers or believe that asking in a different way will get the foot in the door.

It does bother me, though, that some of us evidently don't check their location and explain carefully to them how they can go about selling.  Why lead them on?

My suggestion:  Let's don't bother to reply at all and see what happens.

Re: Sri Lanka Posts

Sadly, if you live in Sri Lanka, you can't sell here- so you shouldn't be posting here either.

I feel for the people, they're just trying to make a few dollars at least they're willing to work for it.

I suppose if you can BUY in Sri Lanka, that complicates things..

Technically eBay could ban IP addresses from Sri Lanka from posting..

They don't.. It's likely because it increases their traffic on the site.. SIGH.
