selling item request while away

Hi All--

Have had a starter store account for a bit over a year mainly to be able to use the "time away " (aka vacation mode) feature. A buyer just contacted me and wants to purchase a listed item now and says he/she understands it won't be shipped until the end of time time away period.

Is there a way to allow a sale of a single item while on time away without opening the entire store? Can I reply to the buyers message with "send an offer" and be able to postpone shipping item until end of away period without getting dinged by the automated system for not sending item out within 1 business day?

You will get dinged for late shipping on this.....

Have then come back when you get back is the only real solution...

My advice is to politely ask them to wait until you return. Otherwise you will be required to ship within your established handling time. Option B is to update that particular item with a long enough handling time to cover the days you will be away. But things beyond your control can happen that would delay your return so I would go with the first option.

I don't think it is possible to cater to one special entitled potential customer while you are away, no.  Unless you are close enough to the item to get it shipped within your handling time it is not worth the trouble.

Don't do it!  You are thinking abut letting a potential buyer tell you how to run your business.  These types of people want to manipulate you into working while you are away.  

Shoppers can put any item on their watch list and wait in line until you get back.

Imagine having a brick and mortar store and a customer calls you to ask if you could open early next Thursday morning and jump through three hoops while skipping rope.  

Any time I get unreasonable requests from shoppers who know we are on vacation I will open the item and raise the price so that when I do get home I'd be glad to sell it to the first shopper willing to pay the price.

Special requests get 'special' pricing.

I recommend that you ask the buyer to wait and purchase the item when your Time Away is over. You can offer to send a reminder.

All sellers can use the Time Away option.  It is not necessary to have a store subscription.
