Some help needed w/an explanation of the requirements of Guaranteed Delivery.

I think I have a misunderstanding of this program and would like some information please.

Per the stated policy on the site it is suppose to apply to listings with a 0-1 day handling time.

https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/shipping/ebay-guaranteed-delivery.html

On my listings I have 2 day handling yet Guaranteed delivery appears on some if not all of my listings yesterday, today I don’t see it.  On another account the listing have a 3 day handling time and it is showing on all of her listings, which is presenting an issue as these guaranteed delivery target dates are being missed.

So if the written policy is wrong we need it corrected.  Or is there an application of this program that I'm not aware of.

After some testing on the listings on another account, if shipping is separately stated, the Guaranteed Delivery statement goes away.  It appears to be only showing on Free Shipping listings even with a 3 day handling time.

It also does not seem to be considering handling time when calculating the ETA dates at all.  Well not the handling times stated by the seller on the listing.  I have a 2 day handling time, the other account has 3 days, yet each of our listings coming from roughly the same place show the same ETA.

A purchase today on the other account would have until Wednesday the 24th to ship [3 day handling], yet the ETA due to Guaranteed delivery states delivery would be the 25th.   Oh and I should add that on both accounts I use Standard Shipping which is 1-5 days per Ebay’s schedule of options.  So clearly Ebay is not considering handling time in determining if the listings qualify for Guaranteed Delivery OR in the ETA dates.  Both are HUGE ISSUES!

I’m aware that when I view a listing that the ETAs stated are based on the zip code in which the account I’m viewing the listings with along with the listings location.

So what am I missing?  Did something change?  Or is this a glitch that needs some immediate attention because of the serious ramifications this can have on affected sellers.  Both their stats and their selling account health.

Exactly! Why have us specify a handling time if they are just going to ignore it?

Yes, that is what they do:)

And I don't think they should have that liberty.  They want to hold us to what our listings say all the time.  Yet when they feel they have a better idea, they can override what our listings say.  That shouldn't be an option.

I don't offer free shipping, so this is not about Fast & Free or GD, but maybe you know the answer.  I have 1 day handling time and always ship same day or next day.  So, if I decide to take a couple of days off and change my handling time to 3 days, will buyers still see the same estimated delivery date as they would have if it was still on 1 day handling time?  Or is this something they do with GD?

Thank you for all the replies.

I'm aware that you don't have to Opt into Guaranteed Delivery or Fast & Free.  Fast & Free is not the issue I wrote about.

So from reading the announcement [that I obviously ignored when I got it], and from the posts here, the only issue is that Ebay is not taking into consideration my handling time at all.

I get it now, thank you for all the help received here.  I appreciate it.

Well, actually they are:) They are taking our "historical" handling time into account when showing the GD.

I do understand that, however I see that as completely unfair.  If I do exactly what I say I'll do in my listing, 2 day handling, and the item arrives late due to Ebay's desire to give a buyer false hope, I'm the one left to fix the issues that may arise with the buyer.  I'm the one that will have to take a hit financially because Ebay CHOOSE to ignore my stated handling time.  If Ebay wants to take on the financial burden 100%, I'll take no issue with it.  But until they do, I have a problem with their inaccurate numbers.

I am in total agreement with you. I did not "opt into" GD mainly because of the fact that I do "free shipping" on most items. I know that eBay covers most of the GD stuff if we meet our handling time, but if the buyer chose to return because they did not get their "instant gratification" GD I would be out $$$.

Also went from one day handling to 2, then to 3.  Still the GD shows when eBay feels it applies.  Along with the possibility of the initial shipping $$ loss we then have an unhappy buyer(could have been a possible "buy again" buyer) because of eBays unrealistic expectations.

I have a 100% handling time/on time scan rate, but in the past few weeks I have had several items with the "arriving late" event showing in the tracking.

What they are now doing has nothing to do with being enrolled in DG. Initially I believe it did, but eBay has reworked things.

A temp change to 2-3 day handling will make no difference. They will continue to go by historical shipping times. My understanding is that you would have to set the handling time to 4 days or more for the GD to not appear for anyone.

Dang as much as Ebay wants sellers to offer Free Shipping, this rather defeats that and encourages sellers that don't want to be in this program to move to stated shipping to avoid it.

With GD: eBay would cover the return shipping cost as long as the seller met their handling time and there would be no SNAD strike on the seller's metrics (I don't think, I could be wrong about the metrics). Or if the buyer keeps the item they can get a $5 voucher to make up for the late delivery and the seller is out nothing.

Are they going to add a reason that buyers can select when filing a Request for Return?

Buyers can go through a screen that asks if the item arrived late, and from there they are given a choice in how to proceed. In my experience, buyers almost always take the $5 voucher. I've never filed a late GD claim myself so that's why I'm not completely sure how the return process looks.

I don't know if it opens the return as a late delivery or if it goes through the formal SNAD system, but I do know that the buyer doesn't start out by hitting the return button. They could be re-directed for the formal return page later though. Because the seller met their handling time and eBay covers the return shipping I'm making an assumption that it doesn't count as a formal SNAD. We may need to get eBay to confirm one way or another if it would impact the seller's metrics.

I wouldn't mind the program as long as Ebay didn't take liberties with the ETA dates.  They should be considering the STATED handling time and they type of shipping service as set in the listing.  If they stuck with that, I would like it better.

I do agree with you there, but oddly my delivery estimates were all pushed out when I signed up for GD. They got an extra day or two of padding.

Humm.  I use Standard shipping on most of my listings.  Maybe I should test using Economy Shipping.

I checked this out yesterday. Changed one of my free shipping listings to $0.10 shipping. And it went back to “estimated” which is preferable to the word “guaranteed”.

Yes because it is as others have been explaining to me on this thread.  You first would need you listing to qualify for Fast & Free before GD.  And Fast & Free obviously requires free shipping.

If the other posters are correct, it shouldn’t make a difference as eBay is using your actual track record. Even though I don’t want to, I may try a 4 day handling time to see if that gets rid of it.

I’m in Florida. You’re in Washington state?
It tells me fast & free. If I order now I’ll get delivery 04/25. Impossible!

Depends on which of my items you look at.  Fragrance or craft stuff?
