During this time of "in transit, arriving late" packages I've been getting quite a few INRs. About 55 by now since BF.
I've been noticing a good number of buyers who have resorted to lying in their comments and messages. But I wonder why even do that. It doesn't change the facts or the issue at hand at all. Many of them have been telling me that they've never experienced the USPS delay thus far and the popular "All other packages I ordered were delivered on time to me." Yet I see neutral and negative feedbacks the buyer recently already left for other sellers either saying the item was delivered late or not received.
What's the purpose of these lies? To try and persuade me to make the packages move faster? Or do complaints and exaggerations go hand in hand?

They lie to try to get free stuff. Lot’s of people know the USPS is messed up. They use that to their advantage.

Another reason may be that manny people have this self serving sense of entitlement to have what they expect to happen, what they want to happen & do not handle disappoimtment well.

I suggest adding signature required to any order over $50. Whether you hide that in the price or just eat it is up to you. I have never had an INR or NAD case opened when I surprised the buyer with signature required. Using signature required is inexpensive insurance and a tax write of at the end of the year.
As far as the current delays with the USPS I think we are all covered. Ebay will remove any dings for late arriving deliveries as long as you printed your label on time.

There will always be those "outliners" on both sides. While I don't expect the buyers to look at the situation from my POV; I do try my best to put myself in the buyer's position when I reply to their concern. The majority of them have been very understanding and agreed to wait. It's up to you how you decide to proceed with the ones that are not. To me, the risk of doing business is the same everywhere. I don't bite the hands that feed me.

The lying is not limited to buyers.
It probably serves the same purpose as it does for the sellers who say "that's funny, all my other buyers got their packages on time" when their feedback as a seller clearly shows otherwise 🙂

I always let my Buyers know when there will be Delays in USPS Shipping...( like now..
the worst ever) and I keep them informed along the way....They are grateful for that.. even though I have had
Many Packages that have taken Weeks Longer than Usual to arrive...No One has filed an INR..
since I am communicating with them and keeping them informed...Several items
were Delivered today..after Weeks of "In Transit".

What is the purpose of the lies? It's to get a free item, that's the purpose lol
Some people have zero patience and zero awareness of the world around them, like they are the only thing that matters and if they don't get their way, it's a 2 year old's hissy fit and tantrum in an adult body. God forbid an item is late, their whole world is over.
Lies, exaggerations, scamming and trying to get a free item + today's entitlement attitude = the messages you've been receiving.

Mon, I had a Cal buyer (I'm in PA) write to say she would buy a Christmas vest if I would put 3 day shipping on the listing (it had priority........but obviously the estimated delivery time was longer than 3 days). I wrote back and said no way would she get it for Xmas due to all the delays........blah, blah. She thanked me, said she didn't "think" about Christmas traffic delays..........
Some people just don't inhabit the same world I do............

"Some people just don't inhabit the same world I do............"
LOL my thought exactly lol. Like, duh, why would you think your item would get higher preference over the over THOUSANDS of packages waiting. Common sense is a lot less common in this world that it used to be.

The Terms of Service lets eBay put the Guaranteed Delivery date into a listing without the seller's consent. I can't change that and since I don't pay the penalties, I don't mind. When the buyers send the rare message chastising me for a missed date, I explain they should file with the eBay parent company to get their credit.
My buyer had a Guaranteed Delivery date of six calendar days. You would be hard pressed to find the perfect storm of events to delay the package. The Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and an unprecedented amount of packages.
INR Lie #1 I only received a tracking number today. Fact: The tracking number was uploaded into your Purchase History screen six days earlier. eBay sent a confirmation with the tracking number to your email six days ago.
INR Lie #2 The item has never been delivered to USPS for shipment. Fact: The acceptance scan occurred 4 days before the Guaranteed Delivery Date. Sellers can't in any way edit or fake those dates.
Feedback Lie #3 Didn't answer email I sent. Fact: They never sent a message. It is impossible to delete a message from the Message Center. If you rummage around, you will find it in some folder (inbox, sent, trash, archive, etc).
The negative feedback was removed in an automated way before I requested a removal.

I get that a lot with INAD / Defective / Doesn't Work / Wrong Item Sent returns...
Doesn't fit is another favorite of mine...
It's not the reason they chose, it's that many add commentary ...
It puzzles me, too.

We have been so lucky so far....
When printing the label, we include a msg that says the PO is struggling to deliver items on time. Please expect a minimum delay of at least 2 weeks or more.
Then during transit, I let buyers know if there is a big change in location / movement.
Our PO ISP was down for 2 days so there was no scanning in the packages. All have finally been delivered but one of those. That buyer, the closest to me, has been patient so far.
The rest that will not be delivered by Christmas, I wrote and suggested they print out the listing and put it in a box for the receiver. Several liked that idea.

Tagging on.
Some people lie when the truth would benefit them more. It's a habit.
We live in a world where too many people were not taught to be honest (About anything) by their parents.

Sounds like a guy a saw on the news that was expecting a delivery on Nov 5th. It arrived late. Filed SNAD. Lost the case. Not handling it well.😧
