Has anyone else soft declined best offers by counteroffering high specifically because you do not want to sell to a particular buyer based on buyer's feedback left for others?
First, I am afraid to outwardly decline because that shows eBay you are unwilling to negotiate, so I always come down some.
I am only wondering because I had an item listed for maybe about $45 ish and got an offer of around $30 (3rd offer by buyer first was only $20, lol). I went down to about $39 but would have accepted $30 or countered at maybe $33 only I did not feel like I wanted to deal with the buyer.
Ever have that happen where you examine the buyer before accepting and intentionally do not go down much because you do NOT want the haste of selling to a particular individual?

That's an advantage of Best Offers, sellers can vet the user before deciding.
You can add this user (or any user, for any reason) to your blocked bidder list and decline their offer. Easy peasy.

There's no reason to avoid declining. You can even just ignore the offer and let it expire.
If you decide you don't want to sell to somebody: Don't play games, just ignore their offer and put them on your Blocked bidder list.

...or you could just dump using 'best offer' all together.
I think it's the worst 'change' Ebay ever did in here. It immediately cheapened this place.
I hate every aspect of it and will never use it.

eBay is a market place, just like renting a stall or table at a flea market. They have nothing to say or do with your negotiations. So, don't worry about what eBay thinks.

If I don't want to deal with a buyer, I just decline the offer and block them.
I would never send a high counteroffer because they just might accept it.

You can set rules/restrictions for buyers on your account
You can set the highest/lowest offer you would accept onto the listing
You can just say "No thank you"

If I am not comfortable with a buyer, I do not sell to them. I ignore and block buyers with low ball offers. . My experience with them is they most often file a false report of damage, not received or charge back after the fact. They are not worth the headache.

Hi, i do not vet buyers in anticipation of possible problems with transactions. If something happens, then it is dealt with, but i especially don’t worry about feedback since it no longer figures into our seller metrics.
