So the dust has settled somewhat. How will you handle GTC? Do you know?

There's been a lot of venting on the new GTC listings which is understandable.

This is not that kind of a thread, therefore no redundancy.

Reactions and opinions have been freely shared as to what was thought of this change. The dust has settled somewhat after the announcement of the Early Seller Update. As you know, there has been much reaction. Many don't like it. Some are optimistic. Others don't feel it is a concern. Some have already made plans and know how they will handle it. Some may not have any plans.  Some may be planning other things.

So this thread is an opportunity to share your plans, if any, and share what you intend to do about it and how you will handle it. Some have shared strategies on when to post to avoid additional listing fees which would be costly. Thank you!

May it help any who are undecided solidify their plans. Together, we're better! Thank you!

Re: So the dust has settled somewhat. How will you handle GTC? Do you know?

If we actually get a start date for 30 day FP going away, I'll likely use up this month's free 50 right away with my last chance to list the old way. Then starting in April I'll list/re-list after the 15th so as to get myself into the pattern where I won't get hit with fees twice in one month for several years. It remains to be seen if they will still be offering freebies at various times of the month, which of course I'll take advantage of and will put me in the position of constantly monitoring for the 29th day. We were already planning a garage sale for this spring, so I'll decide what I'm tired of looking at and what's been listed for many months and see if I can clear stuff out of my eBay listings that way. More money to be made on eBay because it seems garage sale folks think everything ought to be almost free, but it will mean fewer items to keep track of on the listing cycle.

Any plan that doesn't include jumping through the next Ebay hoop is bound to fail.

I've already donated a bunch of stuff, including items not yet listed. I have been letting my listings run out, have done zero relists this month. I will be listing my free listings at the end of the month, and I will let them sit, drop the price occasionally, and when my store subscription is up I will close it and donate the rest. I'm done with eBay. They're over anyway in my opinion. No dust has settled on my end, if anything I've had time to really acknowledge what this means for businesses.

Probably will only do auctions on eBay and all Fixed Price somewhere else.

As it is, anything I list on eBatty automatically becomes a fixed price listing on other sites.

I used to have a Premium store, until I was restricted years ago to 10 items per month.  When I finally became an Above Standard seller, I dropped down to a Basic store.  I list my 250 fixed price listings per month, dividing by the number of days in the month and that is what I list, with a few auctions here and there, but no where near the 250 that I can use.

I relist every day, and usually have around 70-80 in Unsold listings that I can rotate every day as my FP listings end.  When my listings start going to GTC, I will change some of my single item listings to auction-style, and rotate them, probably using a 10 day duration to make it easy, or maybe 5 days.

Years ago I did have all listings as GTC, but ran across posts where sellers were saying that FP-30 was a better option, with a push for newly listed and ending soonest, so I slowly changed all of those from GTC to FP-30.

The appropriate date to start GTC, April Fools Day!

Re: So the dust has settled somewhat. How will you handle GTC? Do you know?

I, like many others, am not happy with the forced GTC restriction. I have a starter store which means I only get 100 free listing for fixed price & no auctions. So unless eBay gives me additional   free listings that won't be automatically relisted, my plan is the following:

1. I have already relisted 15-20% of items that I have multiples of on other sites & will list more over the next 30-60 days.

2.  Some items I will list here with a quantity of 1 with a Out Of Stock option. These will be my most popular steady items or a few newer items.

3.  Some of my less consistent items, I will list with variations to reduce the chance of  getting hit with fees for going over my free allotment.

I have considered closing my store. I just opened it a couple of months ago & the early termination fees aren't too bad so I'm still on the fence about that. I am just back on eBay after a several year absence & it is very disheartening to see what has happened to what was once a great place to sell. Between eBay's issues, USPS increased rates and Chinese sellers being able to ship for next to nothing it is getting almost impossible to make a decent profit. I wish they would just split into two...one site for the big drop shippers and one for the small sellers who either deal with one of a kind items or deal in a particular niche.

Good luck to all no matter what you do!

Unless ebay decides to up the 50 free listing allotment per month I will be ending many listings and taking them to auction.

Too bad there isn't a Swap Listings function where Sellers could "swap" formats with other Sellers ... would LOVE to have those unused Auction listings you have LOL!

I know you probably already know this but sometimes to stretch my Auction listings or depending on when I acquire something I will run 10 Day Auctions starting Wed or Thurs ... that gets them 2 weeknds of exposure and they end on a weekend ...

Re: So the dust has settled somewhat. How will you handle GTC? Do you know?

I have found that relists don't get as many views as "sell similar", so every 29 days I will be canceling all listings and doing a sell similar to them all. Which of course means more work for the same dwindling profits. Just like literally EVERY other seller update. This is reason #634873649876 why I have stopped buying inventory and am just trying to sell through what I have and leave ebay forever.

I'll probably do more 10 day auctions,  while I wait to hear how others GTC listings are doing.

Its pretty much all we do with only limited usage of auctions in many, many years.

This will not effect me at all.

Re: So the dust has settled somewhat. How will you handle GTC? Do you know?

I hate the GTC thing. It ends all of my listings after 30 days. I have a smaller store and 30% of my listings ended today. So I have to go back in and renew them.

Why did you have to change it? It was working fine. I knew what was renewing and what wasn't because I am not a mega seller and can keep track of my active listings.

Please stop changing what's not broken.

Re: So the dust has settled somewhat. How will you handle GTC? Do you know?

On my GTC listings, I am unable to change anything. The fields are grayed out. Is there at trick to changing them BEFORE they end? The only other way I know how to do it is to actually end those listings and RELIST.

I think you have a misunderstanding.  GTC = Good Till Cancelled.  GTC listings do end after 30 days, but they automatically renew using the SAME listing number.  You do not have to repost them.  However that would be true of the current 30 day BIN/FP listings.

So maybe you aren't currently using GTC and if you started using them, you may like it a whole lot better so you not have to repost all your listings every month.
