Folks just don't realize its not for now,but once ebay becomes MOR they are just putting things in place to make sure the seller is holding the wrong end of the stick and not them...

You have always been responsible if a package is stolen from a porch IF you do not provide tracking. Nothing new except the tracking must now be entered prior to the delivery date.

That's the way I took it.  Just something to encourage tracking being entered when item is shipped.

Nothing has really changed other than the scam some sellers were using to circumvent an INR claim will no longer work.

And that was my other thought.  To put an end to those who send something somewhere in the buyer's zip code, but buyer does not receive.

Wow!!! Thanks for the Link. That is just crazy!

ONE Requirement (if seller wants to not be held responsible for a 'delivered' item) is to have Buyer's ADDRESS on the tracking..USPS does NOT have this.

Things are going to go downhill from here I think 😞

FedEx and UPS don’t show the address either. So......what carrier does eBay want you to use?

On the thread I was on RE:Fall Seller Update this was a hot topic. The blue there said as long as tracking was uploaded and shown delivered we would be covered. I copied him the response the blue said about needing the recipients address to show and he stated it was a "miscommunication"

You will only be repsonible if the tracking has not been uploaded on time, and tracking shows it was not shipped/delivered to the correct address.
If an item was lost int he mail you will still need to have insurance to cover yourself for that
Nothing has really changed other than the scam some sellers were using to circumvent an INR claim will no longer work.
And this has already been clarified by an ebay blue in another thread too.

It doesn't get much clearer than this; the rule has changed.  From the Fall Seller Update under Service Metrics & Shipping (underline and bold mine):

"If I have tracking that proves an item was delivered even though there's an "item not received" clai...

It's an unfortunate reality of ecommerce that items are sometimes stolen or lost on their way to the buyer. Ultimately, it's the seller's responsibility to ensure their orders make it into their buyer's hands, and it's important they plan for the occasional lost or stolen item.

We will always do everything we can to help mitigate this risk for our sellers and will even cover the cost of the item in certain situations. The best way to protect yourself is to upload tracking for each order you receive as soon as possible.

I have asked a blue, any blue, in another thread how the response of "oh, you just need tracking" applies to the statement above.  No response, of course.

Exactly! Right off the bat they were given the opportunity to clarify. The "mis-communication" happened because His first few answers were side-stepping without giving a clear answer as to what was meant by the word change.

So now we will move forward, and see 6 months from now, if it was really a non-issue or not. And if Ebay is still the one paying the refunds out for INR.

Here's hoping that no other bumps in the road will appear as we head towards the Holiday season. I have BIG plans for this Year! Getting read to start some listings 🙂

No doubt the blue was not briefed on the wording change because it has absolutely nothing to do with the Fall Update.

Right.

Some here are not grasping the problem.

There is a blue on one thread stating that the tracking has to show the address.

On another thread, a different blue is saying it’s a miscommunication.

I think it’s ridiculous for the SELLER to plan for the buyers item to occasionally be lost or stolen after delivery. I think the buyer should plan for that. If someone gets stolen off your porch, that’s not the seller responsibility. And that’s why we have renters and home owners insurance.

I think you are misinterpreting the message.  I appears to be more "it happens so dont freak out when it happens to you."  All you need do is provide the postal tracking showing it delivered.  If stolen, the buyer reports to their police.  If delivered to the wrong house or it isnt on the porch/mailbox, then the buyer should ask the PO to confirm they left it at the correct house.  Once the PO shows DELIVERED, you are good.  Copy and paste the delivery tracking and confirmation in any disputes.  Sellers are NOT responsible for items for all eternity.  This is a bad rumor based on the rantings of angry or uncooperative sellers and it needs to die.

My take is this:

Responsible as in refund? If you have  uploaded tracking before the package is delivered that shows shippIng and delivery to the address eBay gives you, Not at this time.

Get a ding for it if the buyer opens a case? Yes.  That ding will in all  probability  will be held against you later with a one year look back

Get too many dings vs the super secret metric (where you will never be told who your supposed peers are or how that data was determined) and your delivery time estimates will be extended. And that too will in all probability change. Look to the 4% increase in fees if you exceed the secret metrics for SNAD complaints. Best indication for future behavior IS past behavior.

In the future? I would say sooner or later they will find a way to make sellers either refund the buyer or they will raise your fees to cover it.  Just like DSR stars wouldn’t count against you, oh no wait, yeah now they do.... oh SNAD complaints won’t count against you as long as you handle them, oh no, yeah now they do.

ebays path has become very predictable.

meh

I’m not sure about all that but I had moved my stuff earlier this year to other platforms and was making good money then the summer slow down came and I listed a few items here with a starter store so I could have the vacation setting if needed. Now things are picking back up elsewhere where there’s a 3 day return policy only if NAD so I feel like I’m done here. If they can’t appreciate a 19 1/2 year member then they don’t appreciate any of you. Remember that!

I have defended Ebay time and again but I’m done defending.

They're both right; "address" has NEVER had to be complete address, and the first blue didn't state it needed to be now.

NO CARRIER publicly displays the full address of the recipient.   Are we seriously discussing whether eBay has secretly voided ALL Seller Protection for INR????

It would be helpful if a blue would merely clarify what "address" refers to.  Frankly, their responses to this have not been satisfactory to me.  I know other posters keep saying that hasn't changed, and I hope they are correct, but I like to be sure.

It shouldn't be this difficult to write rules that are clear.  If a rule has changed, clearly state how it has changed, and don't do it under darkness for us to find later on.

I know I appreciate 10% over 25% FVF and flexible shipping costs to fixed $7 or more and I appreciate sites with actually BUYERS and name recognition.  I also appreciate sites that let you list nearly ANYTHING rather than having to list items on 6 different sites with different policies to get everything sold.
