So, if your a buyer you can no longer request to see the item your interested in purchasing because eBay's afraid you'll buy it off site. Plus if your a seller and you provide an address to inspect the item eBay will restrict your account. Hows this going to work with cars, and big machinery, and the like?
eBay wants everyone too base their purchases on the actual description and that's it. That can create some big issues for sellers when it comes to return freight shipping. Also, how is this going to work with free pick up's. Sellers need to provide an address for the pick up, but they can still wheel an deal, the way I see it.

It's a catch 22. Someone is going to go look at a car or a vase, like it and go home and buy it on eBay. They will buy it on the spot. A listing fee for a car is $120 IF it sells.
Prov 20:14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

You would think that eBay would apply some common sense here. There are certain items that not many people will buy, without being able to inspect it.

This part is funny from that article.
"If you don't want this to happen again, do not ever give out where or who you are to any customers ever again!"
Yet eBay allows their stalkers on this forum to tally up all the ID's of each seller while they sit under their fake ID's on this forum........

That's going to change how certain items on this site sell in the future.

Just list on Craigs, they allow you to list whatever you want, phone numbers right in the listing.

LOL, eBay is chasing the wind, with Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Craigs and all these map apps that tell the buyer exactly where the goods can be seen, as usual eBay is light years behind what people are really doing.
They are now advertising on TV when kids don't even watch TV anymore.

Last time I checked, Kids are not everyone or even most people's target audience. I know quite a few adults that still watch TV.. granted most have a DVR or a version thereof.
OP: Other than a vehicle sale, I dont understand why you would need your buyer to view before purchase.
I have some large items that have to be shipped frieght. I can pretty much photograph & send images or answer most questions on items via ebay's . I do a pick up only option on all my listings. If someone wants to view it, they need to agree to purchase via Ebay and then we either do cash when they arrive or I send them an invoice with shipping so they can pay through Paypal.
Money doesnt change hands until the buyer decides. If they come out and are not happy with the item, I go back, cancel at buyers request and relist (of course this rarely happens because I have talked to the buyer before they come out and tried to answer all questions.)

Yes, that is the new protocols set forth by ebay. We recently had two parties interested in coming to look at furniture prior to purchase, which we always did with no problem in the past, but we had to advise the parties that we were not able to accommodate their request now since ebay does not permit either party to exchange any contact information.

Makes me paranoid about communicating at all now! Bots suspending or restricting both buyers and sellers over false off-site shenanigans. It hasn't happened to me but I read about it every day here.
How in the world does it help anybody? It's only stopping potential (legitimate) transactions but we know that "We're working on it" means it is done and that's the way it will be...

eBay is becoming the laughing stock of this business and is falling behind the times !!!

It could be antique furniture, where freight is involved.
I've got some antique Chinese porcelains that sell for 5 and 6 figures. I can put all the photos in the world in an ad, as well as a 20 page description. BUT, unless the buyer can hold the piece, feel the porcelain, see it in REAL and various light, the pieces aren't going to sell for more than a few hundred dollars - One can't tell if they are real without seeing and touching them.
And, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Folks wonder WHY things of value - true value - aren't listed on ebay? Forget wondering - ebay wants fast food quality.
The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.
Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

I would never buy furniture sight unseen. I don't care how good the photos are.

19 years of selling here and selling everything under the sun I've never had someone request to come and inspect something and about the last thing I want is some unknown chuck from who knows where rolling in for a inspection.....
