I ended 300 + listings today, after being told ebay would be charging this fee retro-atcively on a case I won.
I wish all, good luck.

So how does the transaction defect fee of 4% benefit anyone other than eBay?Across the whole site and over the long run, this penalty fee should tend to discourage below standard sellers from continuing to sell here - and that should tend to raise the overall quality of sellers.
But if you are looking for an explanation of who benefits when looking at a specific transaction or seller, the answer is that eBay benefits.
Hmmmm, sort of gives one food for speculation - when all the current below standard sellers are gone, what will be the criteria for below standard?
Didn't something like that happen with DSRs?
Some folks really really have qualms about loosing revenue sources.

I'm not sure why anyone would think it benefits anyone but eBay.
I guess one benefit is that you get to continue to sell here, as opposed to being kicked out like they previously did.

Well above propaganda, is that it is good for us.
You know, this little bump in the road.
But do not worry, in short order, it will be a 12% selling fee then within 5 years eNay will get it up to 14%.
The shareholders have to have quarter over quarter, increases in revenue, so it drives the stock value up.
WHERE IS THAT GOING TO COME FROM?
And for all, the sellers that have looked at this, you will end up, in my position.

I know, I have toted the line, all my endeavors are carried out in a methodical professional manner.
This is a no win, scenario.
Where the sellers are the ones to be sacrificed.

Did you really want that buyer to pay a 20% restocking fee and return shipping for a defective toner? And how would he know it was defective if he didnt try to use it? Your feedback response doesnt make much sense,"you agreed to this with your purchase'..what does that have to do with a snad purchase?

The subject is:
How ebay would be charging this fee retro-atcively on a case I won.
Not the return or re-stocking fees charged.
Not erroneous feedback left.
However the sale you mentioned, is not the sale that is in question.

Well, good luck to you wherever you decide to go from here, whatever you decide to do. Ending 300+ listings is assuredly your option. They're your listings to dump if you want to!
And selling here doesn't work well for some folks. It isn't a One Size Fits All sort of thing, and while some flourish here, others don't get it to work as well for them. Whatever. As we say, it isn't a prison term. You can leave any time you want to.
Just stopped by to say Good Luck.

Will we? That's so nice of you. Been here since 1998, so far so good. Sincerely, good luck to you.

And accusing other posters of being Ebay shills, when they dont agree with you, is a tiresome clichet..
You'd think it would mean the same thing as "By using our site, you agree to let us hose you", etc.
But, of course, this is eBay.
I agree that if this OP won his case there should be no penalty, but I think the weasel wording of "we reversed the outcome" doesn't actually mean he won. It means eBay issued the buyer a courtesy refund, and that may still mean "without seller resolution"... at least in this case, and this week.
eBay has a solid history of sellers losing even when they "win", so it doesn't surprise me... especially given all the hidden policies.
OP, sorry this happened to you, but this place is just quicksand anymore and you need to realize this if you want to continue to use the eBay platform.

eBay is in the business of making money. They have investers. They need to grow.
eBay's competition is Amazon .... eBay needs to compete with Amazon, so they don't want bad sellers. They want buyers to return and give good word of mouth.
Amazon offers guarenteed shipping, well guess what? .. eBay is rolling out the same thing.
I have been selling on eBay since 2005 and have dealt with many of many changes. Most of these changes cost the seller, but it is eBay trying to improve the buyer experiance.
I still don't agree with how eBay works. As a Top Rated seller with Same day shipping, Fast and Free Shipping, Guarenteed Shipping, 30 Day returns... everything eBay wants. I still have non-Top Rated sellers showing up above me in searches. That baffles me to no end. eBay is pushing sellers, but those sellers that jump through the hoops are left behind.

Ebay constantly fails to realize that they are nothing but a glorified classified site, and their real customers are sellers, not buyers. Until Ebay understands that they are making their fortune on the backs of thousands small US sellers, and they owe it to them to treat them fairly, their profits will continue to go down, along with the stock price. Every Ebay step of making US sellers' life harder and making them jump through more hoops is a step to Ebay's grave and fading into obscurity. They are basically killing the goose who is laying golden eggs. It's hard to understand how the top brass doesn't see it clearly, are they really that dumb???? First, I thought they deliberately want to run the site into the ground and then sell it to the Chinese on the cheap, but after 10 Main or whatever it was called fiasco I don't think even Chinese will want it...

I'm afraid I must disagree with part of your post.
IF ebay wants to improve the buyer experience, you aleady gave the reason - it is ONLY so they make more money. There wouldn't be improvements for buyers, either, if it didn't make money or if it cost ebay money. ebay doesn't give dividends and and it would seem that the lion share of the stock stays in the company and some goes to the brass.
Also, ebay's competition didn't have to be Amazon - ebay might have been the 'big dog' in its own yard because they didn't have competition.
And, tenure doesn't really mean all that much here - some were selling here nigh on a decade 'fore you started. And a few post on the board, even now.
(of course, just my opinion - your mileage may vary)

Ebay and Amazon started a year apart, with two differnt goals.
You must agree that eBay has been going away from "auctions" since Facebook and Craigslist have started.
eBay is still a publically traded company, so they need to go to keep investors.
Bottome line, ebay needs BUYERS and SELLERS. There is a fine line of keeping BOTH happy.
As a huge business ... which is more important? Buyers or sellers? Answer, buyers.... Why? Since I know you will disagree ... here is the reason. Buyers are hard to replace .. sellers on the other hand, if one seller fails, another will move in to take their place. It is how business is run, the bigger sellers will take over the smaller. eBay knows this, so losing sellers, not a big deal (new ones will come in) Losing buyers, ... may not be new buyers waiting.
I've been a seller since 2005, done over 120k in sales in a year. I will agree, eBay craps on sellers. I have NEVER been happy with how eBay treats sellers, but if I put myself in the head chair, I see why they do what they do..... well not 100% since my top rated seller rating listing are still below Non-top rated sellers...

It'll be like Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average.
