So buyers can abuse ebay's return system with no repercussions?

Someone bought a 1/6 figure outfit from me then an hour later asked me to cancel, then a few minutes after that sent me a message telling me not to cancel. After that he started asking if I had other things I could add to the sale, and I said no. He said fine, go ahead and send it. I had a feeling it would be trouble but did my part as I was supposed to.

Buyer gets the figure and asks to return it, saying there is a stain on the outfit. I told him there was no stain before I shipped, as my listing photos show, and it was sealed in package too, so I asked for a photo. The next day he sent a pic with a tiny dot of lint or something on the unopened outer package. I told him my listings are marked "no returns" but if there is a reason to return it I will anyway. I asked him to please try wiping off the little speck of whatever on the wrapper before we go straight to a return. His response was "No, I'll just wait and have ebay get me my refund.

I told him there was no need to do that, and I accepted the return.

Later that same day I noticed he left me a negative feedback claiming I made up reasons not to take returns and harassed him, which is FAR from true.  I hit the report button on that and explained that the feedback statement was not true and the item I sent was as described.

Buyer then waited until the very last possible day to send the item back, and when I got it back, as expected, there was nothing at all on the package or the dress. It was in perfect condition just as I sent it.

When I finished the return with the refund I had the option to report that I didn't agree with his reason for return and attached pics of the outfit I got back with no "stain" or anything else on it, then I called ebay and asked if there was anything else I could do about this abuse of returns. By telling me he'd just wait and have ebay refund him, he knew I had to do what he wanted whether it was right or not, because we all know ebay would just let him have his money back and keep the item. I had to pay his return shipping and got my first and only negative feedback just for trying to work out the problem with the guy then allowing the return despite it being based on an obvious lie.  The ebay rep said I did what I should do and they will review it. If they find that he did use a false reason to return, I'd be refunded my return shipping and his account would possibly be banned.

Seriously though... They just tell you what they think you want to hear and nothing will come of this, right? Buyers can just lie and do whatever, forcing a return for no reason but buyers remorse, I wont get that return shipping cost back, and I am stuck with the negative feedback. Do I have that about right?

Re: So buyers can abuse ebay's return system with no repercussions?

I really have to wonder what the heads of Ebay do all day? This site has so many serious problems and nothing ever seems to change here! It will be interesting to see how their next quarter turns out. All the problems with their return policies and antiquated feedback system is turning away sellers and buyers in droves! All I know is I am doing much better on other sites now but I am still sad that I put 18 years of hard work into Ebay to watch my hard work go down the drain while it is completely out of my control. Guess I bet on the wrong horse!

Yes,  it's sad and disappointing.

I sure loved eBay!

But, nothing lasts forever, every dog has its day, all good things come to an end.

All that...

Those 18 years were not a waste.

You probably made some money & had some nice surprises with good sales.

Ebay is still here, many are here.

Things can change.

Slow sales are our issue.

I mentioned eBay to someone recently and they replied, "is that still a thing?"

I believe that's the overriding problem.

And now the messed up search, with all the promoted (sponsored) items.

As a buyer, that's driven me away.

Our plan is to keep listing until we have to use managed payments.

That will be a whole new system to learn, new bank accounts, lots of time burned without  making money. $$ is why we do it.

At that point, we will step back & see what happens while the kinks (& there will be problems) get ironed out.

You all here can take over & work it all out.

There was life before eBay, there will be life after eBay.

And yes, its sad.

Well, considering there are more layoffs, the APP isn't up-to-snuff, 4 months later, I hear that there are still major problems with SI, a lot of error messages, personally, I think there may be dark clouds on the horizon.

I keep thinking that it would take a total re-vamp of the platform - to today's operating standard - before they can get all the bugs and glitches out of the system.  And, then, they would need the staff to keep it up-to-date and oversee the roll-outs and/or updates before they are rolled out and/or updated.  But that takes money and the Stub sale will probably about satisfy the shareholders, for the time being.

As for your 18 years, it isn't a waste - you learned.  And, think of the adventures you have had along the way.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

Actually, making the needed changes is the ultimate job security! It puts the company in a better financial position therefore lessening the need for layoffs. People are really short sighted.

Actually, SELLERS are eBay's customers, not buyers.  It is the sellers who pay the fees for selling on eBay, not the buyer.

I wish the leadership of this site understood that, but in general the corporate mind seems to have an event horizon of about one quarter.

Re: So buyers can abuse ebay's return system with no repercussions?

True. Also the corporate mind has 1 other thing on their mind, THEIR paycheck. Customers be damned.

I am going around and around with CS about a Case that was opened before the end of the Return deadline. The dates are on their system: 19, 20, 22. Yet they refuse to acknowledge the facts that 19,20, and 22 only go in this order. Its not: 19, 22, 20 and not 22, 19, 20.

Yet they will defend to the death that its: 19, 22,20.

And this isn't the 1st time this has happened. It is endless and to be really honest, I am really fed up with the **bleep** because its a waste of time & $.

I've been a seller for 6+ years but they just really don't care. And don't even try to talk to management. There isn't a way to do it unless its online. So Jordan takes over, asks sellers to submit "complaints" and changes they'd like see fixed and they would pick the top 5 submissions. So they did and what happens? Absolutely nothing.

The day eBay is acquired by another company is coming.... Berkshire? NYSE / Intercontinental Exchange? Other???
