Sneaker authenticity guarantee

Hey ebayers

So I listed some sneakers that I had bought second hand, that were a particular label, they ended up selling for $205, because of this price ebay took over the sale, I had no choice in the matter and I had to pay to post them to their authenticity guarantee address, EBay said this was a service that they provided free to ebay users at no cost to me or the buyer.

So I paid the post $18.90 and sent them off, I then was told that who ever looked at them, was not able to authenticate them and they have given the buyer a full refund and are returning the shoes to me, but they have not refunded my $18.90, so this is a loss to me. I don’t think this is fair, and I want the money back since I have also lost a sale.

Who has had experience with this and is it possible to get a refund on the post cost ?

From what Ive read, Ebay only pays the shipping to return the shoes to you, not the shipping fee to send the shoes to them. If Im wrong, somebody will step in and correct that.

@ti_609429 ,

Why should eBay refund your shipping costs when the shoes weren't genuine?  No different than if I send a autograph to PSA and they return it to me ungraded because they couldn't authenticate it.

Not only do I don't get my shipping fees back I get my grading fees back either which are usually a lot higher than the shipping fees.

The shipping company did their job of delivering the shoes.

Why should they refund when they did what you paid them to do.

Have a great day.

This loss is a deduction (or is in some way ‘accountable’) on your year end taxes.

I agree with you 100% if the item is NOT authentic. (no refund)

Hypothetically, if the shoes were authentic, would there be any recourse for a refund? ($18.90)

I thought I read that if the shoes were counterfeit/fakes, Ebay would take them out of circulation.

  • Impact of Fraud Detection on Buyers and Sellers.

You acknowledge and agree that if our team of authenticators detects fraud or suspects that an item is counterfeit, the item will be removed from marketplace circulation. In addition, eBay will work with the proper authorities as needed and reserves the right to confiscate and destroy any items determined to be counterfeit.

@bonjourami   didn't know, but it does mention Australia for buyers

Shipping sneakers with Authenticity Guarantee

US buyers pay a flat $14.95 eBay shipping fee when purchasing sneakers that qualify for Authenticity Guarantee ($30 if the buyer is located in Canada, $45 if the buyer is in Australia, or £8.95 for UK transactions). We'll then send sellers a pre-paid FedEx shipping label so they can ship the sneakers to the authentication facility, free of charge.

and in the FAQ link>

How do I ensure my listings are eligible for shipping to Canada or Australia?

Wow...thanks..surprised there have not been any complaints on the boards about Ebay confiscating fake items.

I am surprised as well. There have been many posts of sneakers being returned (not because of condition) because they failed (could not authenticate), but if they are not original, why would they be returned? (assuming the posts are factual)

Yes, I would think there would be complaints about confiscation too..maybe Ebay is not really doing that tho.
