Since when is 13 Oz. the Max for First Class Package?

I have always used calculated shipinng. And I was certain I had many listings with 15 oz. first-class shipping.  However, for the past few days, I am getting this message that states,

"Package weight is over the weight limit for service USPS First Class Package. The maximum weight is 13 oz."

Just to be clear, I am choosing "USPS First Class Package (2 to 3 business days)" in the drop down 'services' section.

Am I missing something obvious, or did ebay and/or USPS change the first-class-shipping weight limit?

Default setting for type of 'package' is letter... Letter weight limit is 13oz... I'm betting the setting is on letter... and if they swap it to "package" instead the little red letters go away.

I could very well be wrong... but it makes sense given the details given.

@uzepi* That is the old weight limit before they changed it to 16oz. eBay probably just forgot to update that part of the site.

"Since when is 13 Oz. the Max for First Class Package?"

I think it is only on ebay.  That is how their program was set up and nobody knows how to fix it.

13 ounces is the limit for packages shipped over the counter at your local post office.

If you use ebay online shipping, the maximum weight is 15.99 ounces.  So when you create your listing, specify 13 ounces, but when you print the actual label, you can EDIT the weight to 15 ounces, and you'll be able to ship using first class package rates.  The rate for 13 ounces is the same as for 15 ounces if using online shipping.

From USPS.com:

First-Class Package Service-Commercial Parcels

  • Maximum weight: 16 ounces – Price based on weight and zone
  • Size Requirements:
    • Minimum Size:  For mailability, all pieces ¼ inch thick or less must be a minimum of 5 inches in length, 3½ inches in height, and 0.007 inch in thickness
    • Maximum Size: 22 inches in length, 18 inches in width, 15 inches in thickness
  • Parcels are subject to a surcharge if they are irregularly shaped, such as rolls, tubes, and triangles
  • The content of these parcels may not contain documents or personal correspondence unless it contains invoices, receipts, incidental advertising, and other documents related to merchandise contained in the parcels.

Depending on the item - letter, large envelope, package - max weight can be anywhere from 3.5 oz to 16 oz.

Check your settings. If you are set to pass on the retail discount to your buyers, you can calculate postage up to 16 ounces. If you are set up to NOT pass on the discount, you cannot. You can only calculate up to 13. You would have to set a flat rate for 13.1 to 15.99.

Check and make sure something hasn't changed.  https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf/carrier

southern*sweet*tea, thanks for your reply.  I did not change any of these settings. It is currently set to "I do not want to offer carrier-specific discounts." I may have never even seen this setting before and I definetly did not* change it recently. Dispite the fact that nothing was changed, the situation I described is defferent than it was a couple weeks ago. Am I the only one experienceing this change in first class limits in the listing section? I repeat myself: this was never problem before a week or two ago. Something is weird. Am I th only one experiencing this change?

Entering 15 oz was never a problem before.

Yes, the point about entering 13 oz was taken and apreciated since it is the same cost for a single unit.  But for caculated shipping on multiple units, this could be a problem and messes up my system.

Well then, the eBay gremlins must have changed it for you. Because that's the reason why you would not be able to set up a First Class package over 13 ounces.

Just change the site preference, or set your package weight to 13 ounces and calculated shipping will still work correctly.  Multiple item purchases will still be in the appropriate weight bracket for purchases up to 5 pounds: 2 items will show as 26 ounces and will ship at 2-pound rate, 3 at 39 ounces which is the 3-pound rate,  etc.

I saw a message about 13 ounces in the Post Office, so they might have changed. I hope not because it's a much cheaper option to ship.

The weight limit for First Class packages IS 13 ounces when you ship at the Post Office.

The rules for online rates have not changed, as you can see if you go to the label printing page or if you look at the Commercial package rates in the official USPS rates publication:
