Should I cancel order? Buyer 0 Feedback. Initials only for name. $400 Item

I am debating what to do.  I had someone buy a $400 item.  They have 0 Feedback (Says Member since Nov 2020).

They also didn't include their full name on the order and just put their Initials.

This makes me very nervous.  They payment wasn't through paypal, but Ebay's new payment system.

I don't want negative feedback, but would rather not lose $400

I’ve actually had an item returned to me because there wasn’t a name match!

Any delivery service will be delivering to an address, unless as someone stated above there has been a request for  Restricted Delivery Signature Confirmation.

Any residence can have multiple of people living there just as a business address can have many employees working there.

That is a rarity then and not the normal.

You said it all, no seller protection enables more fraud and CS doesn't get it, if someone loses $400.00 they lose nothing. It show just how out of touch they are. Have you ever heard the term ENABLER??  bubba

That had to be a mistake or there's more to it than matching the name to the residents.

How is the post office supposed to keep track of people moving in and out, births, name changes, visitors....and on and on?

I was wrong, it was only about $300 total.  I did reach out to the buyer to see if they could verify there name and they had a pretty good explanation.  When I searched the address, it did come up with that name on google.

I will just require a signature to be safe I think.  Still makes me nervous, because it is a Camera

Just be sure to communicate that to the buyer as it requires them to be home or take a drive to the post office. Neither is a very convenient option for me.

Also know that signature confirmation doesn't really offer you any additional seller protection from eBay. If the item is under $750, it's not necessary.

DO NOT send with Signature Required without buyer's permission. This is one of the easiest ways to get a negative. This can be a serious headache for a buyer and you might even get the item back. Insure the item instead for a little bit of added protection.

I agree, some buyers despise signature requirements.

If the purchase is over $750, I buy the signature requirement and inform the buyer that have to sign for it. I don't ask if it is OK.

On another note, I recently had a San Fran buyer ask why I did not send a package Sig required on a $275. Buyer claimed city was rampid with porch pirates. I asked why was I not informed that they needed a Sig required shipment? Also informed buyer they needed to provide a safe place for deliveries. Buyer went off on that one stating they have no responsibility for making sure their deliveries are not stolen and they would not be using eBay in the future.

I left it at that.

Glad to hear you feel more comfortable shipping that one. Google is your friend. Just having the address can spill a LOT on information.  Good job.

What a lot of sellers don't realize is that 0 feedback is not an indication of potential fraud in the works. Neither are initials for names. New buyers are joining eBay all the time, and buyers have plenty of fitful, unique reasons for not wanting their full names on a parcel.

I've sold to plenty of buyers with no feedback or initialized names without issue.

Do note there's a relatively little-known feature for eBay sellers where you can prevent buyers who have had a set number of seller claims against them from purchasing your listings. I recommend this.

Cancel that order. Be very careful of buyer's who are new on ebay. Contact the buyer to confirm the address and you add $400.00 insurance protection on your behalf. Reply you need to adjust fees, cancel the order. Shipping dates are not certain right now. Cancel order and relist.

This is full of bad advice.

DO NOT...NEVER....contact a buyer post sale and try to "adjust fees".

NO. You get no additional protection with Signature confirmation if the sale is less than $750 and its just more money out of your pocket. Its only above $750 that Ebay requires that of you to maintain your protection against an Item not received dispute.

All you are doing is adding a hassle to your buyer who has to make sure that someone is home to sign for it when its delivered. Once tracking says that it was Delivered then you are covered against an INR dispute.
