So I thought ebay was going to charge me the 13.25% for selling a model train but they charge more than that. Are fees for model trains more?

The fees on the shipping/taxes and the forty cents? Yep, if you don't take those into account and only figure it on the asking price, the amount taken out can be a surprise. Looks like you had some good sales, though, so it shouldn't have hurt too bad.

Yes, the fee is as you state, but, if you use promoted listings, eBay now charges you, in addition to the item cost, promoted listings fees on taxes and shipping; and final value fees on shipping and taxes; and halo fees. Pretty soon, eBay will charge final value fees on promoted listing fees. Geez, you'd think innovation is the top priority to bring in new buyers and elevate the platform rather than raking sellers over a hot coal bed.

Don't take the attacks personal. Something bigly happened on November 5th that has their world-view a little more wonky than it already was. Watch YT video for a better understanding:

Okay.
Did you expand and review the charges that were shown for the fees to see what was charged for each item in the order? (item sale price, tax, shipping, etc) That should be broken down when you expand the fees list, which both myself and someone else showed you an example of.
If your sale was above 10 dollars, you got hit with a .40 cent transaction fee, plus the 13.25 for the entire total of the order. IF under 10 dollars that transaction fee is .30 cents.
If you were running any promotions or ads, those are factored additionally to the 13.25.
So.
What do you see in the expanded fees list that is making you question the fees in the first place?

LOL, the "attacks" are entertainment and opportunities for me. I really don't know anyone personally here so...
Nov 5 is a weird thing to bring up here and offers no excuse for the behavior of anyone here but go with it, I guess.

@dbfolks166mt wrote:Your question has two answers the first being yes 13.25% is the FVF rate being applied to the total cost of the transaction. The actual effective rate is going to be a bit higher due to the fixed transaction fee of either $.30 or $.40 and the FVF applied to the sales tax.
The effective FVF % will generally be between 13.25% and 15%.
The basic FVFs are always commensurate with the overall transaction price. Using @dbfolks166mt's post as an example... when I sold, I listed with 15% in my mind. But I found the charges to always be eBay's stated FVFs.
I'd have given that post a helpful except for the last sentence, "The effective FVF % will generally be between 13.25% and 15%. ", which confused me. Again... in my experience, the FVFs charged were always eBay's stated FVFs.
