Trying to sell shoes, mostly brand new in box, and some used. The requirements are getting overwhelming. When you go to buy a pair of shoes in the store, they do not offer nor require all this information that Ebay is stating is necessary. It makes selling so much more difficult and so much more time consuming. When you go to Macy's or somewhere else, you see a pair of shoes, try them on if you can, and you either like and buy them or you don't. There is none of this background information given so why do we as sellers have to spend an inordinate amount of time filling out these insipid "add item specifics." Please have Ebay go back to a simple format. It was so much better. Thank you.

...lol...it's funny how "item specifics" is helpful in some categories and ridiculous for another...
...despite the nagging from eBay to fill them in, the clothing department, specially women's skirts is lacking so much these item specifics such a measurement for length and waist...
...let's say...knee length skirts...without the number of measurement, how could buyers figure out exactly at knee, above knee or below knee...because everyone's height is different...
...reading some listing descriptions with lengthy explanation for shipping and feedback, but very little to none in providing measurement...and even not enough photos...

...if you can't provide all the tremendous item specifics, just put N/A...problem solved...voilà...!!!

@coleclectics Two things:
1. You can't try on the shoes online as you can in the store. I purchase running shoes on line, for instance, and you should see the long list of specifics the New Balance site, for instance has. It's so I can choose the right pair.
2. Not sure where "insipid" comes from - the required item specifics are so shoppers can find your item among hundreds of thousands. The rest are not mandatory.
I sell shoes here and it takes almost no time at all to list them.

ebay advice is to leave them blank...........reason is that you will have the whole list with NA showing in your listing........

Have found the more detailed the item specifics, the more likely it sells. Ymmv.

You only have to fill in REQUIRED items specifics (others you can leave blank). If customer get too much (unnecessary information) it will only confuse them.
EBAY will keep trying to get to fill in blank spots (when you go to SELLER HUB, ACTIVE LISTINGS) you will see tab RECOMMENDED SPECIFICS (click on RECOMMENDED SPECIFICS and go into every listing and click on box "DON'T REMIND ME AGAIN".
EBAY is doing this now with all categories (there are a million stupid things that you can include). This is an epic fail on their part.
