I use a Dymo LabelWriter 4XL. Totally reliable with 4x6 thermal labels on a roll.
However, if you ship international and need to also print out customs labels, you may need a regular paper printer. For those occasional international labels and for regular business full-page printing, I went to Costco and picked up an Epson Ecotank ET-3760 while it was on sale. Best move I made for not having to constantly buy expensive HP cartridges... My HP printer went the donation route to the local thrift store.

I'm so happy with my Rollo ❤️ Also very flexible with what labels you use... not locked into brand-specific labels.

I love my Rollo so much that I refuse to "feed" it anything but genuine Rollo labels.
No aftermarket labels for me!

Maybe it's unfair to blame the Rollo for this, but...
Have you ever shipped to Guam?
Shipping labels to Guam are different.
They will not print out on a 4" X 6" label on the Rollo.
They have to be printed on a full sheet of paper on a regular printer.
You're using ebay to create these labels right? Ebay does that for labels that have too much info to fit on a 4x6, typically multiple 4x6 pages like international with customs forms or US territories that use customs forms.
Other places like stamps.com don't do this. They split it among multiple 4x6 pages so the pages just print out consecutively whereas ebay uses an 8x10 and cuts the page in half if I recall correctly. I can't remember how Pirateship does these.

I use UPS "free" labels. ... i put "free" in quotes because they weren't free for me LOL. I feel they are high quality, maybe I'm wrong? I found they are the least expensive for me to obtain ...

I don't have any personal experience with the cheap thermal printers but I have looked at them and they do have that "cheap" feel. The printer heads may last but the mechanical portions that feed the labels may not. The really cheap printers from brands you never heard of probably work fine but don't last.
You can increase the life expectancy by slowing down the rate of speed when printing multiple labels, this will help prevent the printer head from overheating.
Yes, I got my first ones used and abused from some Bank of America branches who were upgrading their equipment. They were cheap and pretty tough and do last awhile. Later on I just upgraded because the old ones I had only had parallel ports. Got some cheap refurbed ones from ebay and another popular site, just had to pay attention to the date on the manufacturer's sticker since some sellers were lying about the dates. I believe there are some moderately priced brand new ones on these sites.
Trouble shooting can be a bit difficult sometimes because there's so many darn models and not all the DIY tutorials are specific to your year or model. This was the case of some of the really old ones, the new ones seem simpler to diagnose and resolve issues.

Ebay has always defaulted to the half sheet label for international labels. Although I have in the pass been able to shrink them to fit a 4"x6" label. However, the best option is to use PirateShip, which formats all international labels, including integrated and separate customs forms for a 4"x6" label printer to begin with.
