Selling a literal 1/1 high value item and avoiding SNADs & scams.

Hi,

I have a 1 of 1 item in the video game & electronics category that I am the only known owner of. If the item gets stolen or not returned back to me, there is no way i or anyone else can find another one (anytime soon at least). What is the best way for me to sell this safely on ebay and avoid getting the item stolen or scammed. Is there a way I can do an in person delivery since this item might go for $7500+? What would you all do if you were placed in my shoes?

I would try craigslist or facebook marketplace.  Agree, don't sell it here.  Even if you lose $500 elsewhere.  WAYYY too risky.

Agree with ^^^ eBay is not the place to sell a $7,500 value one of a kind item if you are looking for guarantee's against scamming.

A proper auction house would be much more suitable.

You could sell it on this platform and most likely be fine. However, I would take into account multiple protections that you may want to enforce in the listing. Established account, verified telephone number, consistent positive history of these items, speak with them on the phone, use UPS or FedEx with signature and ID confirmation, etc. I've sold a few thousand dollar items on here before. But, I made a lot of extra effort in establishing that it was legitimate. In hindsight, anything over $5K then I'd have used escrow. However, if you have the option and can sell it locally, then choose it over eBay.

Sell it elsewhere is what I would do, maybe at an in-person auction or through one of the video game grading/authentication services. Dont list anything here unless you can afford to lose it.

If not do not list it on the Internets.

Oh and this is a high scammer targeted item....

As others have advised, selling ANYTHING here you are not willing to lose is a bad idea. There are not any real seller protections here, that someone can't get around and get the item for free. This item would be highly likely to be scammed. 

If you want to sell it safely, you will need to sell it through an auction house (preferably one that would specialize in this type of item) or sell it for cash, face to face. As much as eBay would like to tout how "safe" transactions are, that just isn't true. Any item sold here can be scammed. There are no true or real protections here.

None of those suggestions will help the OP avoid a SNAD/INAD return request that could end in any number of disappointing scenarios for the seller.

Sellers can't enforce any terms that are contrary to eBay policies and procedures just by adding them to their item listing.

On eBay, any buyer can steal any item from any seller at any time by filing a fraudulent dispute. There is no way to eliminate the chance of fraud on eBay.Period.

If it were me, I would consign it to a high-end auction house that specializes in the item.

If it truly is a 1/1, have it professionally graded and sell it thru the sites that do graded games, etc. 

If you sell it here, even with pick-up only, e-Bay makes you offer at least 1 online form of payment - still too risky.

I would say exactly the same thing about Facebook, Etsy, Amazon, eCrater, Bonanza, eBid, or Mercari.

IMHO fraud is an e-commerce problem, not an eBay problem.

Every sale or purchase I have ever done on FB has been done face to face with cash in hand.
