Selling a literal 1/1 high value item and avoiding SNADs & scams.

Hi,

I have a 1 of 1 item in the video game & electronics category that I am the only known owner of. If the item gets stolen or not returned back to me, there is no way i or anyone else can find another one (anytime soon at least). What is the best way for me to sell this safely on ebay and avoid getting the item stolen or scammed. Is there a way I can do an in person delivery since this item might go for $7500+? What would you all do if you were placed in my shoes?

Any answers are welcome 🙂

I am not exactly sure what your 1 of 1 item is other than it would probably fall into a high target category for scammers. Remember the first rule as a seller Never list anything on eBay you cannot afford to take a loss on. There are a lot of high dollar items posted on eBay and most transactions go through without any problems or scams but remember the seller has little to no protection from eBay and even less for chargebacks.

The decision is 100% yours to make based on your risk tolerance. If they item does sell for what you believe it may sell for you are going to get hit with a pretty good eBay FVF as well as insurance cost on shipping the item which eBay will also collect the FVF on.

The suggestions from others on using a consignment auction house is a good one. I use a number of online consignment auction houses for higher end items that I just do not want to risk a loss on by listing on eBay. You can find several that actually take possession of the item and act more like the seller of the item that an intermediary. Some will even ship and there are those that do not have seller fees but tack on a buyer premium to the sale in order to make, their money. Several will even handle shipping of the item. Most of the high end items I have sold or see sell, on those venues bring premium prices especially for high demand unique items.

The odds of a successful sale here of an item such as you describe without being scammed either before payment or after delivery are slim to none (and Slim just left town). Sorry.

I would not sell it on ebay chances are you will be scammed. Ebay will do nothing if the buyer makes any claim they will refund in full and you may not get the item back,,

Ebay is not the place to sell a 7.00 dollar item

@cyberpunk_2077_electronics  If you do decide to sell here, I would state Local Pickup Only and have them pay cash at the time of pickup. They can't file a chargeback with their cc bank that way. They could still open a return on ebay by claiming the item stopped working.  If I were the buyer, I would want to test it before I paid for it (no matter where you sell it). If you're not comfortable meeting at your home, I would make sure I ( or the buyer) brought a laptop so they can see the item is in the state you listed it. I meet at the local police station (most have parking spots designated for online transactions)

Facebook marketplace is pretty good. Anything other than an in-person transaction on any platform runs the risk of the buyer starting a return and/or sending back a box of garbage. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for your replies, ended up selling it for $3000 in person at a convention. Conventions would honestly be the best place for an item like this since there's a large amount of buyers and it's all "cash"
