Selling Service/Consignment Shop in NYC or Long Island Area?

Hi everyone,

My friend is getting ready to liquidate a storage space with a bunch of vintage tech and video game stuff in really mint condition... Apple IIgs, Vectrex, etc.

He doesn't really have the time or bandwidth to deal with photographing/listing/selling/shipping himself.

Does anyone know an eBay selling assistant or service, or consignment service, in the NYC or Long Island areas, or nearby?

Many thanks in advance!

Re: Selling Service/Consignment Shop in NYC or Long Island Area?

Your friend will most likely have trouble finding anyone to sell his things for him.   If someone would sell his items, they would have to have the items in their possession.  They would have to photograph and measure the items, list the items, handle questions from buyers, handle returns, chargebacks, and potential fraud claims.  They would have to ship, probably using their own shipping supplies.  There are fees to take into consideration and the potential for a chargeback from a credit card company can take up to 180 days, which can have a bearing on distributions.  The sales would be applied to the seller's social security number for the 1099 issued at the end of the year.  For all the work and responsibilities involved in selling, most sellers do not want to take on these responsibilities for someone else's stuff and it is not worth whatever you would offer to pay them.

In addition to all of the above, the person selling the type things you mentioned would have to have a working knowledge of them so that they could answer questions, etc.  It could take months for some items to sell, if at all.  Fraud and scamming runs higher in tech items than most other categories so that would be something to consider.  If any of the items are high dollar, it is not a good idea to sell them on eBay. ("Never sell anything you can't afford to lose".)

Your friend might try to find an auction house that would work with him.  He would still have fees and such to pay but everything would be taken care of in one fell swoop.

You will need to look locally.

Ebay does not allow personal information to be shared unless it is between  a winning buyer or the seller .

Lift your left leg at midnight to start off on the right foot. Happy new Year!

That request would be great for Facebook (locally) to your family and friends. Get the word out to those you know first. Good luck
