Why is ebay stealing their final value fees by including the SHIPPING charge in their fee evaulation??? THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!! I sold a lot of children's books for 99 cents and my FVF was $1.49!!! **bleep**!!!!???? I am at my wits end with their THEFT... I am going to find ways to USE ebay to MY benefit and they can go SCRATCH!!! And this isn't the only listing that they've ripped me off... it happens ALL THE TIME!!!

Yes they did rip me off - - and others as well. And if you don't think so, you don't know your worth. Their fees are a scam. And that's why I'm getting out....
EBay operates as a business and as a publically traded company their ONLY purpose is to maximize their value to their shareholders. It is probably best you are "getting out" eBay is not for everyone or for everything. There are a lot of items I simply don't list on eBay since I cannot remain competitive in the marketplace and maintain my ROI. There are simply too many other options for moving items these days. I wish you the best where ever you decide to sell.
By the way you still have 77 active items listed that you may want to review and end those that have little or no profit I see at least 8 items listed at $.99.

Sellers pay the fee on the item sold, shipping and sales tax. There is an additional amount if an international transaction.
It is not a secret.
The fee we pay for all the dozens and dozens of unwanted ads on our listing pages is secret, however.

Good luck wherever you go. Be sure to calculate the fees on whatever site you choose and don't forget to end those 77 listings you have up.

You weren't ripped off. You just didn't bother to look at selling fees. So this is on you. eBays fees went up a while back they did an announcement regarding it.
I sell in books and magazines at 14.95% it's no surprise to me, I incorporate the cost of selling fees into the price of every item I sell so my buyers pay my fees.
It's free to list on eBay but never free to sell on eBay.
Before you get out, you need to end your 74 listings first. It will take approximately 60 days before you can close your account due to any outstanding items being shipped and any fees owed.

I'm sorry. But I find it absolutely nonsensical when someone, on ebay for 20+ years with hundreds of feed back, comes on here ranting and raving about fees! Seriously, how did you get this far and not know what the fees are???
I have much sympathy for new sellers not understanding things, but come on!!
Ripped off ... JFC SMH

Why did you do that?
You'll probably have a cow when you find out they base their fee in the sales tax the buyer pays also.

When I buy a stock, it goes down. When I sell a stock, it goes up. Reset 'til it goes the other way.

I think you've got that backwards.
You sold an item for 99 cents and did not bother to read the fee structure.
That is someone who does not know their worth.

Seems you don't know your own worth since you let it happen "all the time."
If you found the fees to be a "rip off" after the very first time this happened, why did you continue to list items for $0.99 without making any adjustments on your end?
A lot of people don't pay attention to fees before listing, but they very quickly learn that lesson after their first item sells. To let it continue to happen "all the time," it's kind of ridiculous to say the venue is ripping you off.
Why didn't you raise your prices - sell in lots - sell different items worth the fees - sell elsewhere - anything to avoid the "rip off"?
eBay's fees are public. If you did not pay attention to those fees before listing something for sale, how can you claim the venue is scamming you? There are no hidden fees. It's all here:

If you are just noticing this, you haven't been paying attention. The FVF on shipping was started in 2011 over
13 years ago and you are just noticing it now?? Why? Not a "scam". It's a rule for over a DECADE.

Please stop back & let us know when you figure this out. I am VERY interested!

Wait until you see selling fees on other sites. Last time I sold on Etsy it was 18% of the item price + shipping + sales tax. I’ve sold at some small area craft shows and a large regional flea market. You don’t even want to know what some of their fees are! eBay has the lowest fees/highest visibility. Good luck finding a better deal, and let us know where it is when you find it.
Editted to add: I now get most of my income through rideshare. Those platforms take 25% - 30% of what the rider pays.

They didn't include shipping in their fee calculations until sellers started ripping THEM off by charging 99 cents with $99.01 shipping for a $100 item.
And you know what's worse? You also pay fees on the sales tax they collect.

This was done in 2011. It was not only because of sellers that were trying to circumvent fees by having low product prices and high shipping costs, but for the fact that Ebay, at the time was pushing Free Shipping. So the sellers offering Free Shipping were paying higher FVFs. So it had to change.
We never paid FVFs on sales tax until we entered Managed Payments. Before that we paid fees to PayPal for processing our money and their fees were on the total amount received, which also included sales tax.

Maybe the op changed his/her mind and decided the fees aren't ridiculous after all.
He/she still has 74 items listed.
