Sellers having issues with buyers claiming the item sold was a fake or counterfeit?

I am a seller, have been selling items on Ebay for a while, 10 years or more, and have been a member since 2005. All the feedback I've received from buyers is that they love the scent & would buy again. Because most of my items are perfume samples and are priced under $15 my listings say they are not returnable unless it is defective from the manufacturer.  I've noticed a pattern when someone wants to return something; that they are a relatively new Ebay member and have bought or sold very little on Ebay. The person will claim that the vial was not full but it was when I mailed it, the listing picture shows a full vial. I believe the person either did not like the perfume and wants their money back even though the listing says it is not returnable or they found the same item somewhere cheaper so they are dumping some of the perfume and claiming the vial is not full. Are there any other sellers who have noticed a pattern? I think these buyers are scammers. I also think Ebay should give sellers the opportunity to evaluate a buyer's feedback before selling and shipping an item. I've provided evidence to the buyer that the item sold was recently purchased from a legitimate perfume vendor and the buyer continued to claim the item was a fake and had been watered down. The item was new to the US and I was the first seller to list it.  Any thoughts?

My advice...

If they claim it is "not as described"

A) Accept the return. Pay for a return label. Refund the buyer when you get the item back.

B) Refund the buyer and let them keep the item.

Ebay has a MBG (money back guarantee) for all buyers.

Basic rule of thumb, whatever the buyer claims (true or not), that's what ebay will believe.

Here's a reality. Buyers are more important to eBay than you.

There are so many people willing to sell, eBay isn't worried about losing you.

If eBay starts having an epidemic of loss sellers and revenues decrease they would reevaluate that.

Also your 'no returns' is meaningless as your item is covered by eBays MBG at your expense.

Accepting returns encourages honesty, all refusing returns does is cause your INAD metrics to get worse.

You can see it advertised right under your 'No Returns'

Re: Sellers having issues with buyers claiming the item sold was a fake or counterfeit?

Since there is, in practice, no such thing as No Returns on eBay— because the terms of the Money Back Guarantee trump a seller’s No Returns policy—it is better for one’s account health to have a more buyer-friendly stance.

No Returns generally applies to buyer remorse only; otherwise, it can encourage an unhappy-yet-determined buyer into opening a bogus Not As Described claim. Such claims can downgrade a seller’s standing on eBay, so they are best avoided if at all possible.

Better to accept that in this day and age, returns are an expected feature of retail sales, rather than fight with an unsatisfied customer. The chronic tug-of-war benefits neither party and can corrode one’s customer service skills in the eyes of one’s buyers.

On eBay, buyers get the final say, while sellers assume all the risk.

Thank you. I understand your point. The point I am trying to make is that I believe there are scam buyers on this selling site. They are relatively new to Ebay and have very little history or feedback. I'd like to know if any other sellers have noticed a similar pattern with buyers. Thanks again.
