Sellers Selling USPS Free Shipping Packages

Have others noted how many sellers are selling USPS free flat rate packaging on eBay? They are going to cause the honest sellers from getting free supplies. Soon they will probably be charged for these materials because of dishonest sellers. I don’t think they realize it’s a felony.

On twitter Wenig has been warned, tagged, and now USPIS (United States Postal Inspectors) are NOW actively investigating these practices. If you see them, report them. They will provide you with an email to send them information. I’m working with one. We need to stomp out these users by reporting them. Since the CEO will not be compliant, I’m not sure what they will do with that? If eBay is accepting commission one would think they are guilty of allowing this to go on knowing it’s very illegal, a federal offense.

I tried to warn a couple before I reported them. Boy do they deserve what’s coming for them. One told me to **bleep** off! Okay, I tried. Go to prison. I don’t care!!

Prisoner #1:  What are you in prison for?

Prisoner #2:  I killed someone during an armed robbery.  How 'bout you?

Prisoner #1:  Uh, I sold some USPS supplies on Ebay!

Re: Sellers Selling USPS Free Shipping Packages

They are taking these people down, but it’s a slow process. It does take a lot of nerve. I actually gave some a heads up before reporting them. Ugly replies. Those are the type of buyers eBay needs to get rid of.

There was one that “had” them out there (he was busted). The offer was to place an order and it takes a while to get them. I am of the impression that this seller was actually ordering the products from USPS to be delivered directly to the buyer.

If they only knew how criminal it is.

It’s not funny. He/She should say, I “stole” government property because that’s what it is.

Yes and Wenig has been tagged, stock holders and the like have told him. He has yet to do anything about it.

I do believe eBay’s take is we do not control what sellers sell, but to receive profits from them I believe is another issue?  When I reported the first few to USPIS, the postal inspector was back to me in ONE DAY.

USPS has been put under scrutiny for wasting money and especially with President Trump. I believe that’s why they are seriously finding these people. They are having to report waste.

Come on.  Wenig in a jumpsuit is a little funny.  I wonder if he can get a multi-color one that corresponds with the ebay logo...

P.S.  I get it.  And I applaud your efforts to bring attention to the problem and will certainly help out by reporting anything I see.

Re: Sellers Selling USPS Free Shipping Packages

@cumberlandgapshop   GREAT POST!   I agree that ALL the listings for USPS FREE materials should be taken down and those Sellers sent a warning.  I also think USPS should curtail their FREE materials program, it obviously does nothing but drive our shipping costs up.  They should at least be charging "something" for people to order the free boxes online in bulk ... I know some won't agree with that but when I go to my Post Office and the lights in the back are turned off because the clerk says they are trying to save money to keep their jobs (they've been without a contract since October they say) then it tells me the business is being run poorly.

"Some" type of a charge would weed out a lot of people who are taking advantage of the free boxes.  On a regular basis I see packages wrapped in brown paper ... care to guess what most of those boxes are underneath the paper?

Just did  quick  sampling of my priority mail shipping items - one  box, 1096T and a Padded Flat Rate Envelope both  have the  following statement printed in blue font -

"This packaging is the property of the U.S. Postal Service and is provided solely for use in sending Priority Mail shipments.  Misuse maybe a violation of federal law.  The packing is not for resale."

I think this is easy language to understand  and  I wouldn't  do this - especially  resale  them but I am not a lawyer - only  have an  **bleep** in Engineering /w Bus. Ad. minor & and an MBA.   Had a couple classes in Business Law and had to buy a  big  fat book - like 4.5 " thick for both classes.

To the poster  who discovered "tons" of sold Priority mailing stuff.  I would check to see  if their is a "bounty"  for  reporting each violator,  if so turn those folks in and use that $$  for your retirement.  Do it  quickly before someone beats you to the punch. (LOL)

EBay does control what sellers sell, a not infrequent complaint on these boards is that ebay removed a seller listing without just & sufficient cause.

Re: Sellers Selling USPS Free Shipping Packages

A couple years ago I phoned USPS to report that the local Goodwill store was selling USPS Priority Mail boxes for $1 each.

The response I got was that they don't care, and they wouldn't take my report.

Yes they will. I know that firsthand. I have a private email in which to report them to her. She stays in touch.

I’m just ticked that we are probably going to lose our free flat rate deals.

Think of it this way - yes, it is an issue.  BUT, but, but, if the postal inspectors took it as seriously as you think they should, there is no need for any eBay member to be searching for the listings and reporting them to the USPS.

Because USPS could be doing that simple search all by themselves.

Since they apparently choose not to, doesn't that tell you something?

Selling the free supplies is wrong.  But if the USPS chooses not to seek out these sellers on their own then they are highly unlikely to take away the priority supplies entirely based on people trying to sell them on eBay.

As another poster already mentioned, the supplies have been misused since they were first issued many years ago now.  If USPS has not stopped their distribution yet, they aren't going to now.

I vaguely remember a case from more than 10 years ago of someone ordering huge bulk loads of boxes, and using them as fuel for a furnace.  This kind of thing makes a seller on eBay look like the small potatoes they are.
