So this is a new one to me. Tonight eBay closed a return and refunded the buyer as well as told them to keep the item. The reason for the return request they stated was they ordered by mistake. Has anyone else had this happen? I cannot even figure out how to appeal since they auto closed it. I am really surprised.....seriously, what other online retailer gives a full refund AND lets you keep an item that you order by mistake? The seller note says it was not what they expected even though there are more than enough pictures of the brand new item that they knew what they ordered. I’m just at a loss for how eBay thinks this is good business practice.

I found another post post that showed how to change return settings for future, but looking for any advice on this item as it seems eBay has just simply auto approved.

Yep e-bay runs your store as if it was theirs I have had this happen to me more than once and was not draging my feet, what is the use to have a return policy if you are over ridden by E-bay, I have in my return policy it an item does not fit or you just don't like it or ordered it by mistake sorry it is yours no return accepted for these reasons and e-bay gives money back and lets buyers keep item, I'm sorry I pay e-bay they do not pay me, if they want to take over my store than pay me. this is the reason why October 30.2018 I will not renew my store and no longer wan't a store. we have stores here in my home town that says no returns and they mean it once you pay for it it is yours no matter what the reason is for the return, they tell buyers you should have read all the return policy befor you purchased the item, and when I buy off e-bay the first thing I do is look at a buyers star rateings and the read all their return policy be for I buy, and I will never ask a buyer to take an item back if they say no returns I will make sure I want the item be for I purchase it, and all return policy's a buyer has in their listings e-bay should have the back bone to back them 100%, e-bay is becomeing a joke any more, and people need to accept it or leave e-bay it is a buyers market not a sellers market, and I will never cover for e-bay for the things they do to hard working sellers.

How were you able to implement a 14 Day Return policy in July of this year when eBay eliminated that option? I would check into that if I were you, go through your business polices. eBay will take the liberty and set up your policies to default and you may be unaware that you have a different policy than you originally set up and thought you had.

First of all I'm not a business or a professional Seller or a TRS+ any more, nor do I want to be. The 14 day return is in the drop down menu. "E Bay will take the liberty and set up your policies to default" Maybe yours, not mine i'm going on 3+months now No issues .... Yes I have had returns requests and still no issues . Like I said, The only issue is TRS+ and that's fine 10% discount. That doesn't cover the free returns and I also stopped offering free shipping. Sales are great. Ebay's default policies are for business or a professional Seller... You may be unaware that you have a different.

HI @kjm0527, happy to clear up some confusion in this return. If you review the email you received at the time this return was closed you will see that we issued a refund to your buyer and did not hold you at fault. For all intents and purposes, this is no different from a successful sale for you where not return was opened. The buyer has received a refund, but this would be from eBay and not from you - you get to retain the funds from this sale and there is no negative impact to your account. In addition to confirming this in the email you received, you can always check the transaction in PayPal to see that eBay is the funding source for the refund.

A few categories still support the 14 day returns but most don't.

You don't mention the dollar amount. Ebay will act as you specified if it is a low dollar item and the shipping you would refund and pay for a return would be more than the item is worth.
