It's been like this for years.  Just like when you buy a shirt in Macys.com and use your Mastercard to pay. Poor Macys has to pay a fee to Mastercard on the sales tax that you paid and the shipping fee that you paid too since you live in a state that taxes the shipping.   Poor Macys has those pay all of those fees but they do not complain because their prices COVER all of the fees that they have to pay. You need to do what Macys does and that is that your sale prices cover ALL of your fees.

Yes, I know that the credit cards charge lower fees than Ebay but that is not the point.

All your sales, and you're just noticing this? Or just airing the grievance? Keep on keeping on...

Not only were sellers 'circumventing fees' by selling for $1 and charging $99 to ship, but..

It was NOT fair to those sellers that do 'FREE' Shipping, as wanted by eBay so a seller doing $50 with $40 shipping would pay LESS in Fees that the $90 Free Shipping Seller.

Let's try this experiment

You sell your 8 DEATON MUSEUM Pieces for

50.00 item + 12.00 Shipping (62.00 total to buyer)

I have the same 8 DEATON MUSEUM PEWTER Pieces to Sell...

My Price is $12.00 item + 50.00 to ship (total 62.00 to buyer

Your sale costs you $6.75 in Final Value Fees (50.00 X .129 + .30)

My sale cost $1.85 in Final Value Fees (12.00 X .129 +.30)

I made almost $5.00 MORE than you because I "gamed" the old system

See now why FVF is charged on the whole sale?

(I am not considering sales tax to simplify the statement)

Sorry you just noticed. It is nothing new.  Raise your prices.

You've been selling this long and just found out you pay a fee on the shipping charge?

You're going to carp your pants when you find out you also pay the fee on the sales tax the buyer pays.

Have a great day.

Fees have been assessed on the shipping charges since 2011, so for twelve years now.  Where have you been?

Its all in the agreement before you list anything & setup your account. If you do not agree to the policy, do not do business here. Simple as that. You are provided the rules up front in this case. Doesn't matter what the feelings are upon those rules. Each of us either agrees or doesn't. The only difference is that ebay doesn't force a check box certifying you agree as active participation in reading the rules.

States also have taxing authority rules & ebay has to comply with those as well. 30+ states tax shipping. Research if your state is one of them.

Just another reason why everyone should use "Free Shipping" in their listings.  Just incorporate the cost into your price.  I've been doing that for a decade or more.  It never made sense why people don't use the "Free Shipping" option.  People searching for the best price are still adding the shipping cost to your price.

The basic economics of free shipping requires that the seller must add the shipping cost to the asking price of their item. Setting a flat price for shipping when you're using a zoned service means that you'll overcharge some buyers and/or undercharge others.

At current rates, a label for a 3-pound Priority Mail label costs me $18.45 to zone 8 but only $7.62 to Zone 1.  If I add $18 to my asking price, then I'm overcharging the nearby buyer by over $10 and you can be sure he'll purchase the item from another seller who has calculated shipping and thus a more reasonable total price.
