Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

I have a situation where the Seller appears to have blocked me in error.  I believe this because I have had all positive feedback for her and from her.  Now I can't contact her because this Seller does not answer questions.  I called eBAY and they said the ONLY thing they can do is send a courtesy email which is 'generic'.  I have no guarantee that she will even read that email.  I see this as a bad policy by eBAY when it won't support the buyer who has a stellar record.

If you have bought from the buyer previously then you have the return address.  One option is to mail a letter to the return address on the packages you have received from them, assuming the orders are not digital.

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

I'm sorry if this comes off as cruel, but it's pretty hard to block someone by accident. Yes, they might have blocked you without realizing you had bought before but they probably blocked you for what they feel is a good reason. This reason can seem trivial to a buyer, even innocent, but might be a major peeve to the seller.

And, as far as I know, buyers are still able to message sellers who blocked them (they often write us using ask a question on another item). So if you sent messages and didn't hear back, that should be a very good clue.

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

Thank you for your reply.  I agree that is a good solution but the last package was received in August so I no longer have it.

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

I respectfully disagree.  I have a 100% feedback record.  I read all the feedback from this one seller and she gave me a positive response to every transaction.  In fact, I pay as soon as I win any auction.  That is my MO. Please elaborate on your suggested insignificant reasons for blocking.  If I owned a storefront and would not allow a potential buyer in (closed the door when I saw him/her), I would be open to a civil suit.  I think eBAY should conduct due diligence and insist on the Seller providing a reason to eBAY for blocking the Buyer.

Of course you have 100% feedback....you're a buyer!!

Buyers cannot get bad feedback...it's impossible

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

Brick and mortar stores often have a sign that reads "We have the right to refuse service to anyone".

That is what the ebay block list is.

We add anyone who gives any hint that they are a problem buyer and we do not care if it costs us sales. We don't care what their feedback is (you do realize that sellers cannot give negatives, right? So, all buyers hypothetically have 100% feedback). We don't care how fast you pay, either. I'd rather sell to a nice person and wait a couple weeks than a problem person who pays right away.

Selling on ebay is hard work and life is too short for us to deal with a problem buyers. We are luckier than a lot of ebay sellers in that we can turn away sales in order to sleep well at night - others can't.

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

The seller may not have specifically blocked you at all. Sellers can manage buyers through their site preferences that will block buyers for things such as location

and not having a Paypal account  but also for their history with other sellers....I am not implying that you fall into any of these catagories but unpaid item cases ,bid retractions, transacton cancellatons, return attempts and other things that may be related to dealing with other sellers can limit a buyer's ability to buy from any seller that has used these settings.

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

Sellers don't block in error.  The odds of that happening are almost impossible.

Blocking someone is a very intentional process.

Buyers can't get negative feedback so the fact you only have positive from her doesn't figure into anything.

While you may think you did nothing wrong, there really isn't anything for Ebay to support there.  Sellers have the right to decide who they want to do business with, just as you have the right to decide who you wish to buy from.

Most likely the seller has a reason that is not apparent to you.

I had a buying relationship with a seller for years and bought sporadically over that time.  It was a good relationship.  I received an item that came broken through no fault of mine, and I found myself blocked the next time I went to purchase.  It's ok, I know it was a business decision and I moved on, because I know Ebay can't force a seller to sell anymore than they can force a buyer to pay, and you can't always get what you want (The Rolling Stones).

If you think very hard, you may come up with why you were blocked which may be helpful to  you in avoiding being blocked in the future.  Improper communication?  Demands for things not in the listing?  Offers that were too low so as to be insulting?  Questions that implied an item was not authentic?  There are many reasons.  Not saying you are guilty of any of these, just that most likely the seller does have a reason, you just don't know it.

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

Ebay can't force a seller to sell to anyone. Just like they can't force a buyer to pay or to buy from a particular seller. Just the way it works. Try to find what you want from another seller, and good luck to you!

Or accept it.

I'm sure your seller did.  But you need to understand that postitive feedback is all a seller can leave for a buyer.  Ebay won't allow anything else.  So when a buyer asks a seller to consider their feedback rate because it is perfect, with all respect, it means nothing to a seller because it can't be anything but 100% positive.

You may have another way of contacting this seller that you feel is incorrectly blocking you.  If you pay with PayPal you can go back to your August transactions and find where your paid this seller.  Then you would have some contact information.

I hope you find the items you are looking for even if you can't get them from this seller.

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

OP, I know you are upset by this seller, but the best thing to do is just shrug it off and move on. There are many other sellers here who may have just what you are looking for.

Once you are blocked, it is almost impossible that you would be unblocked, so go where someone wants your sale, and don't waste your time chasing after someone who doesn't. That is the best thing for you to do.

Hope you find what you are looking for very soon!

What?  If a seller wants to unblock someone, it is extremely easy to do.  Sometimes sellers do make mistakes when adding buyers to their BBL.  A simple character mistake in the ID can do it.

Since the OP has good history with this seller, it seems it is worth a try to reach out to them.  The OP also says they pay for all their puchases, so it isn't likely that the OP is being block from purchasing due to too many unpaid strikes.

Hopefully it will all work out for the OP.  I agree with you.  If they can't get in contact and work things out with the seller, maybe they can find what they need elsewhere.

Re: Seller Blocks Buyer in Error

OP, since it is rare that a seller would re consider their decision to block, there is also something else you might want to consider.  Contacting the seller after they have indicated they don't want to do business with you could be viewed as harassment by your seller and they could report you to Ebay.

There are thousands of sellers here; no reason to fixate on one who has blocked you.

Best of luck with your future purchases!
