I have a situation where the Seller appears to have blocked me in error. I believe this because I have had all positive feedback for her and from her. Now I can't contact her because this Seller does not answer questions. I called eBAY and they said the ONLY thing they can do is send a courtesy email which is 'generic'. I have no guarantee that she will even read that email. I see this as a bad policy by eBAY when it won't support the buyer who has a stellar record.

Just like people make typos on thread postings [not you of course], they can make a typo when entering a user name in the BBL. It isn't like you click on something beside a user name to add them to the BBL, you either type it in manually or you cut and paste. Either way, there is opportunity for error.

If I recall correctly, I remember once manually typing in a buyer's ID and didn't realize I had spelled it wrong until I got an alert (I think it was in red) from eBay saying that ID was invalid. So I went back and copied and then pasted the ID into my blocked list.

I don't know if the procedure/process has changed in the last 4 or 5 years but I had a buyer on my blocked list (on my selling ID) and one day she messaged me to ask why I blocked her. She had given me a lot of stress and I wasn't happy with the transaction but I decided to go ahead and unblock her and she bought something (maybe even a few more items) and I never had a problem after that.
I also recall somewhere there was a place we could go to check and see if someone tried to bid on an item and wasn't able to, although I can't remember where that was.

People block buyers for many reasons. A lot of the people on my blocked list have never bought anything from me, but I know I don't want their buisiness.

Good point. Yes, that happens. Kind of a fail safe to help you enter it correctly.
You're not the only one who had that happen.

Buyer Requirements or Activity Log, I think it was called. The blocked id would show up there when they tried to bid or buy.

Yes! That was it, thanks. I haven't checked to see if that place still exists.

I think it still does. That's how you find out that you dodged a bullet!

@craftladyjg wrote:I respectfully disagree. I have a 100% feedback record. I read all the feedback from this one seller and she gave me a positive response to every transaction. In fact, I pay as soon as I win any auction. That is my MO. Please elaborate on your suggested insignificant reasons for blocking. If I owned a storefront and would not allow a potential buyer in (closed the door when I saw him/her), I would be open to a civil suit. I think eBAY should conduct due diligence and insist on the Seller providing a reason to eBAY for blocking the Buyer.
If you still have a package from the seller, why not send a snail mail?

It is in your Site Preferences, under Buyer Requirements. There is a little report in that section that will tell you in the last 90 days which buyers tried but failed to by from you if they did not meet your Buyer Requirements. It doesn't show you who on your BBL tried to purchase.

It is a way to know if you entered an "invalid" ID. It does NOT flag you if you just entered it wrong but there is a member by that ID, so it only catches a mistake if the ID is invalid for the entire site. And yes it is a very safe thing to say that she is not the only one this has happened to.

@iart wrote:I'm sorry if this comes off as cruel, but it's pretty hard to block someone by accident. Yes, they might have blocked you without realizing you had bought before but they probably blocked you for what they feel is a good reason. This reason can seem trivial to a buyer, even innocent, but might be a major peeve to the seller.
And, as far as I know, buyers are still able to message sellers who blocked them (they often write us using ask a question on another item). So if you sent messages and didn't hear back, that should be a very good clue.
I agree.
