Searches not working

For instance, I search Ebay for P/N AHHB1P and it comes up none found. I go to Bing and do a search and it has an Ebay link. The Bing link works and finds the auction. I look up P/N CR245M211A and again, zero found.  Bing has an Ebay link and it goes directly to the listing.

So I go to recently viewed and the AHHB1P is there and I click on it. The auction comes up fine. While on the auction page I copy paste the part number in the search bar.....Zero found.

I am really hoping that potential customers are not having the same issues where my listings are concerned!

I search for items by part number all the time....

So, if you are looking for an Ipad case you would not type Ipad case into the search line? I have never in a million years thought someone would type the part number for an Ipad case to find the OP's instead of typing the word for what they want.

I have searched for a lot things on eBay, in a lot of different ways.

Lots of folks search in their own unique ways -- ways that may seem utterly incomprehensible to others, but that seem entirely natural to the individual. As long as a search gets desired results, to each their own.

Recently a bug came to light that only occurred when the user selected a particular category using the dropdown menu at the right side of the search bar, and then hit the search button without entering any keywords.

It never would have occurred to me to search that way. But apparently, judging by the number of complaints about the bug, lots of users not only searched that way, but searched that way as their preferred way of searching.

\ is a special character, not a eBay keyword.

@eburtonlab

Maybe, but how would you even know the part number for an Ipad case? That is all the OP put in the title and he blames Ebay no one can find it.

Maybe, but how would you even know the part number for an Ipad case?

Sometimes a part number is all the information you have. Sure, you can use iPad case to search -- if you already know that's what it is. But if you are looking for a specific replacement, you may want to find an exact match, not just any old case.

Searching by manufacturer's name and description is fine if you have that information and there are not too many different models available, and as long as the seller uses all that information to create the listing.

Lots of things I search for are old pieces of equipment that do not have name tags. Even though I know the manufacturer's name and the actual name of the item, the seller who finds one in a box in a closet may not. The item may wind up being listed by what the seller thinks it is called, or thinks it is for. Some of the old items may still have a part number stamped on it somewhere, though, so searching for a random part number can produce a hit.

Someone once put an item in my mailbox in an envelope and said "I need ten of these". The item looked like a very large copper washer. After a bit of digging I was able to determine that the item was actually a copper gasket for a particular vacuum fitting. Sometimes you just have to work with the information you are given, as sparse as it is.

You have no listings, have no clue what is going on and are here giving advice to people while being wrong. I sincerely do not understand it. We built an entire business on part numbers that other sellers don't cover and we can't stop growing.

eBay uses a strict search algorithm. Any words or numbers your customer might use, alone or in a phrase, better be included in your title or your items aren't showing up. It's that simple, you skip keywords and you skip the majority of customers / exposure.
