Sold a super expensive item, Hot Toys, well packaged, insured to full value.
Item was new, but apparently, when it arrived it was faulty.
Fair enough. A refund is fine. Buyer ‘I’ve thrown away the box and shipper’. Now this is crazy, the box is an integral part of the value of the item.
Doing some digging, buyer has history of filing a return based on damage, only to return it with parts missing.
I have not agreed to a refund unless is is in the original packaging.
He’s bypassed ebay and gone straight to a paypal claim. Despite admitting he can’t return as it arrived.
Very frustrating.

With a paypal case, the buyer has to pay it's return. Just a risk of selling here. It's a cost you have to build into your prices. Your asking on the USA site. Log into your account and ask on your .UK board too.

I don't know how it works for UK sellers, you may wish to peruse your options available with regards to returns for your location for PayPal claims, and there is an option to dispute the claim at all.
Just as an added comment, be glad you are not in Managed Payments yet. Disputes filed via PayPal will be called "Payment Disputes" for which there is no "return for refund" option for any 'not as described' claims.

Unfortunately, eBay's software has misdirected you to the discussion boards for the US site (ebay.com). You'll want to post this question on your "home" board so it can be better--and more accurately--answered by your fellow sellers. There are subtle differences between the two platforms that may come into play for UK sellers.

So, are you saying this is a new loophole for scammer buyers who want to keep the item and get a refund? In other words, PayPal protected sellers from fraudulent SNAD returns but Ebay doesn't provide that protection (beyond the 30 days)?

but Ebay doesn't provide that protection (beyond the 30 days)?
My comment was in reference to a Payment Dispute in managed payments. A payment dispute means the buyer went to their payment source to file the claim. That could be PayPal, credit or debit card, etc. These are all called the same thing in MP. In PayPal, they were called credit card chargebacks. They are not ebay claims, nor limited to the 30 day window.
eBay has not provided any seller protection from fraudulent SNAD claims for a very long time now. The difference between an eBay claim is that with an ebay claim, a seller can request a return and provide a shipping label. They don't have to refund until the get at least something back (won't matter what it is). When a buyer goes directly to their c.card, bypassing the eBay claim process, there is no option for a seller to choose "return for refund". In that particular instance, the claim form given to the seller for a response has two choices:
a) accept chargeback and refund
b) contest the chargeback and submit one photo as evidence (and pay $20 extra when you lose)
Some have posted screen shots of the various payment dispute claim forms. They seem to be lacking indeed. For example, there is one for "buyer does not recognize the charge"... Requirements say that the seller is supposed to upload a photo of signature confirmation. There is no place to do that. All a seller can provide is a tracking number. If they used something other than USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc. and have a signed bill of lading from a freight company they are on thin ice.

@mmills52306 find a way to contact me, i'm not authorized to give you my mail here (my last message have been deleted by a moderator) and apparently, you don't receive my message on Ebay. You owe me an object, it's up to you to do everything possible to contact me.

The seller lists on the UK board and has not posted here for a year so they are unlikely to see your post on the US board. How did you pay? If you paid with a credit card or with PayPal you should be able to do a payment dispute through them.
