Scandalous, fraud, ????

So I recently sold an item on eBay when the buyer received it he complains of damage then send me pictures of the damage when I downloaded the pictures they oddly went back in time in my gallery so I looked at the photograph details and it shows that the picture he sent me was taken July of 2016 that got my attention so I requested that he send me a picture of an inscription on the item  that I sent him he did and today's date was in the details so????

Any advice because we all know Sellers lose disputes

Re: Scandalous, fraud, ????

Every picture that my husband takes with his Coolpics camera is dated June 12, 2012. 🙂 The date function is borked 🙂

If they sent you pictures of the damage with something in it that dates the pic, refund your buyer and open an insurance claim with the carrier (if it was insured).

Or, you can ask them to return for refund ... be aware that reshipping will void the original insurance (if any).

Either way, you will be refunding. Don't try to fight, unless they actually admit that THEY broke it, you will lose. And get a whopper of a defect for it.

Just refunding or refund on return does not give you a defect. Letting eBay "step in" will hurt you.

Re: Scandalous, fraud, ????

That's irreverent, assuming we're still worshipping.

The date on a camera can be manually set and reset, especially if it doesn't keep time between battery changes.

Ha 🙂 you must have seen it before I fixed the lovely autocorrect 🙂

It doesn't stay changed, even on a full battery 😞 Hubby says it's too much of a pita(bread) to have to change it every time he takes a pic ... it doesn't really matter to him. At least I got the silly thing (camera not hubby)  to stop watermarking the date on the pics in a big orange font 🙂

Don't worry about it. What's happening is that, as others have pointed out, the buyer's camera has an old date setting on it. The reason that the photos are going "back in time" in your gallery is because the camera's incorrect old date setting is also applied to the image files that he sent to you (including their file names, most likely), and so your gallery sorts them chronologically into the wrong place, putting them with your own July 2016 photos by mistake.

Re: Scandalous, fraud, ????

I already lost $7,000 because they shipped an item to China and the guy claimed it never got there so I'm trying not to be duped again

Who is "they"?

I think that your previous experience is clouding this one 😞

I'm not saying that there *might* not be something ... but the picture dates are not proof of anything.

What I *am* saying is that you cannot fight without real proof.

"Dear buyer;

We are so sorry that your item was damaged in shipment.

In order to open an insurance claim, we will need pictures of the damaged item along with pictures of the shipping box and the label. We will also need a daytime phone number for you, so that the Postal Inspectors can contact you, if necessary.

As soon as we receive these things, we will refund you in full.  We will not make you wait for the claim to be completed.

Please hold on to the packaging and the item in case the Postal Inspector requests to see the damage personally.

Thank you for your cooperation;

Seller"

If the item was not insured:

"Dear buyer;

We are sorry that you are unhappy with your purchase.

Please return it for a full refund.

Thank You.

Seller"

Just a guess, but his camera may enable him to place his own datestamp in the photos, while the camera's internal clock setting is still wrong, and is placing an old date in the filename of the image that you are receiving. Give us one of the image filenames that you received and that may yield a better clue. Alternatively, if the camera is just assigning sequence numbers for image filenames, then perhaps those are sorting alphabetically/numerically into your older images on your own computer.

In any event, where your computer chooses to store those images doesn't matter, just as long as you know where they are and can retrieve them for reference. Put them in a folder of their own and they'll be easier to find later.

Re: Scandalous, fraud, ????

From eveything I have read here ebay does not look at photos.

And yes, dates  on cameras can be manipulated.

Re: Scandalous, fraud, ????

Dates can be wrong and not an indication of anything.

I don't think it will matter in a case.

Sorry.

Re: Scandalous, fraud, ????

@michaeltherrin

My VCR has been flashing 12:00 am for the last 30 years.

But I lost the instructions book.

My computer has a little battery on the mother board.

If it goes dead, the computer defaults to the year it was made.

lol I have a clock on the wall that has said 11:45 for the last year.

The best one was being on the computer when time changes.

( fall back ) for hours the thing kept flipping back to midnight.

Time stamps mean nothing, and ebay don't look at pictures.

We have a decorative clock in our dining room which is very heavy and difficult to take down and put back on the wall.

So with  the time changes, it is always wrong 6 months out of the year.
