The Covid bump is OVER!
I'm down 75% from the peak, right back to the levels in 2019. People have more important things to spend money on like food, gas and housing which have all be sky rocketing in the past 6 months.
Add to that the fact that people are seeing their investments drop like a rock, while this doesn't necessarily affect their current cash flow (unemployment is low, wages are rising) it gives pause to those looking ahead to living off their investments or looking to buy a house or pay down a mortgage.
Interesting that retail sales are still holding firm in Dollar terms but the Dollars from last year are buying a lot less this year and the spending is much more on "needs" than "wants"

Our sales immediately dropped mid October 2021 when ebay combined 3 large categories into 1 insanely LARGE category and added some of the most pointless and irrelevant item specifics. We expect to see even more fall off after the next round of changes. Its not the economy either. Other platforms have thankfully been the same.... Consistent and predictable

I think it has something to do with ebay screwing around with searches and views.

This is not the time for people to spend money on clothes and stuff. Home heating oil was $5.88 a gallon. A fill up cost me nearly 1,200.oo. Gasoline is nearly 5 dollars a gallon . Did you see the price of a gallon of Clorox? Nearly 5 dollars. Meet, I ate one of the worse steaks ever today and it cost me 12.99. Do you think that I have alot of money left over to buy crap or collectibles or clothes on ebay? I can't even imagine what the electricity bill will be like once the Electric company adjusts the "fuel delivery charges" for the what it costs them to get fuel to their facilities so that the power plants can make electricity.
Sales have been dismal for the last 2 months. I feel sorry for the folks that need Ebay to support themselves and their families. Oh yes, let us not forget the new postal rates that will go up again in July! Expect sales to plunge even further.

Sales are down and gas is up $6.69 a gallon in my city.
I have more International Sales than Domestic Sales.
People just don't have the money.
On the stock market: Amazon, Walmart and Target have lost billions this week and last week.
No one buying.
Fasten your seatbelts...its going to be a bumpy night(months).

Bumpy indeed! Gas here back to hovering right at $5/gal
And yes, the stock market is scary sad right now. Afraid to look at any of our statements. Just too depressing.

Took a look at your listings - you have some nice vintage pieces. Buyers are likely not shopping for themselves right now - just too many other ways they need to budget/save, reduce spending.
Hope your 20% off Coupon works out for you! I have not had success with e-Bay Coupons.

Gas is dropping here and stores are busy.
It's a combination of a lot of things, I think.
It's buy time on the stock market.

- Recent inflation numbers are the highest they've been in over 40 years.
- The stock market has been falling since November, 2022 is the second worst start for a year in history (the first was 1932).
- Wal-Mart reported earnings this week and fell the most it has since 1987; earnings less than expected and poor guidance given that consumers are stretched thin. Some have no choice but to buy what they need not what they want. Similar story with Target who just reported earnings.
- Record gas prices. And we're just now entering the summer travel season when gas prices typically rise. Even in WA state some stations have reprogrammed their gas pumps for double digit gas. Gas prices will continue to rise.
- There is no attempt to de-escalate the situation with Ukraine so the war machine will continue. This impacts many commodities, but food and energy are the biggest concerns. Ukraine and Russia produce nearly 30% of the global wheat. Nations like India are now prohibiting the export of wheat and other commodities.
- The price of fertilizer has risen 4x.
- There are real concerns of diesel shortages coming up. Diesel is used for transporting goods, farming, industrial etc.
- The Federal Reserve has only raised the federal funds interest rate to 0.75%. They say they will raise it continually throughout the year. Who knows? However when the consumer cannot afford to buy groceries or put gas in their car, the Fed has no choice but to do something. Rising rates will negatively impact the stock market and the housing market too.
Now, you may think that I am just writing this to sound all gloom and doom. I'm not but I'm not sure everyone realizes how bad things are in the economy and what is on the horizon. We will work our way out of all of this some how. But it will probably take a few years. With that in mind, perhaps think about how you can prepare for a worsening economy. Who is your audience and what will they buy in a tough economy? What can you do to reduce shipping cost? Perhaps source less bulky items, find cheaper packaging solutions, etc. Are you priced competitively? Are you able to source needs vs. wants for your buyers? Review your business and tighten up where you can to help your margin.
To share some of the things that I've done. 1) I eliminated my listings for bulky items to reduce shipping costs for the buyer and gifted or donated those items, out of sight out of mind 2) I've purchased my shipping materials for at least one year 3) I reviewed my sales to see which are selling the best and the worst -- I've marked down to clear out my laggards and focused my sourcing on the winners. Will it work? I hope so, time will tell.

Sounds like even the big time B &M stores are struggling too along with the folks at the big "A".. Guess eBay isn't bullet proof with all the economic issues that are going on right - Hints: A gallon of milk now is $3.23 at our Walmart & Aldi in our 'hood, my property taxes are going up by a ton like 50% higher, along with and increase in my property insurance, etc = people aren't flush with discretionary spending funds except for folks like Elon Musk and the like. Am part of the 30 million people (8% of the US population) that are retired and on SS which is a large percentage of our fixed income now - we had 3 major health issues with in the last 5 years that drained our retirement funds since retirement in 2007. Retirement was fine not that long ago. We are buy our "must have" first. Just an example of what is going on. = we lived through the 1971 - 1984 economic times - and like a Boy Scout we know the meaning of the term "be prepared" now much better than we did back then (been there done that). Like Hula Hoops sales boomed back in 1958 for a very short period of time brought on a reminder & realization - that nothing lasts for ever. https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/hula-hoop-patented. History is a great teacher if we pay attention.

My sales on e bay have been down a long time .I had 4 small sales in the entire month of April as an example . I FINALLY made the big time when by some miracle I made three sales in one day ,, yesterday .However the 33.90 that I was supposed to be paid instead is being held by E bay because of a order I shipped with a tracking number on April 27th has been misplaced by USPS. Either that or the postal carrier just forgot to do the delivery scan and the buyer is asking for a full refund . So even if you do make a sell here you will be held financially accountable for the errors of others . Other selling sites do offer their sellers some protection for things that happen out of their control ,, but e bay does not.

I paid 6.33 for a gallon of gas yesterday . I know there's a lot of people suffering in this horrible economy and it's a shame .

You're lucky then .Gasoline is climbing in price just about everywhere else .There are some places in Los Angeles that people are now paying close to 7 .50 a gallon and can no longer afford to commute to work .
