I'm selling for my boss, and every listing is making the buyer pay sales tax. We are in NH and I have tried everything to figure out how to stop it.
I have my own eBay account and have never had a buyer have to pay sales tax buying from NH.
I'm hoping to get to talk to eBay on the phone, but this is irritating me.

I live in New Hampshire as well... howdy neighbor 🙂 I both buy and sell lots of items on eBay.
The tax being charged your buyers is tax requirements from their own states, not NH.
When I or someone from NH - or any other non-sales tax location - buys they are not charged sales tax.
If that's not happening in your case you do need to contact eBay, but neither I nor my other NH selling friends encounter this.

eBay is required, by law, to charge state sales tax to BUYERS in about 43 states.
The state sales tax charged is based on the BUYER'S DELIVERY ADDRESS, not on the address of the seller.
Does that clarify things a bit?

Sales tax (if and what percent is charged) is based on the state of the buyer, not your own state.

It is clearly obvious why the population of seven states will continue to increase over the next ten years as the rest of the Boomers retire. Unfortunately it only takes one bill to pass to institute a retail sales tax in the remaining states that don't have it.

So you object to states being able to tax their residents for roads, law enforcement, schools, parks etc?
This may be an odd attitude on my part, but I would prefer state sales tax on retail sales over increased real estate taxes. At least that way, renters get to share the burden.

And on the other hand, only one bill to repeal it in the 43 that do 🙂
But as someone born and raised in NH, I know how deep the opposition to a sales tax runs on both sides of the aisle.

Renters already share the burden of real estate taxes in the form of rent.
It would be naive to think that landlords do not consider real estate taxes when setting rents.
That would be akin to thinking that eBay sellers with free shipping do not take the cost of shipping into account when setting prices.

Yes, I am aware of that. Thank you, however.

Actually, here in NH we get a very hefty property tax, plus there's a nice chunk of tax on prepared foods, hotels and campgrounds, and businesses that make over 50K a year... we just don't pay income or sales tax... my question is that on 1 profile I sell from there is sales tax charged to the buyers and on the other profile, there is not.
Also, it was in the past, that if you took a delivery FROM NH (for anything) you didn't pay any sales tax. I suppose maybe they changed that at some point, not sure.

I AM A SELLER WHO SHIPS FROM NH. EBAY IS COLLECTING SALES TAX FROM MY BUYERS IN OTHER STATES. WHERE IS THE TAX MONEY GOING IF NH DOES NOT CHARGE OR COLLECT SALES TAX?

I LIVE IN NH AND PAY PROPERTY TAXES THAT ARE MORE THAN TWICE AS HIGH AS IN NEIGHBORING STATE, MAINE. MAINE RESIDENTS LOVE TO COME TO NH TO BUY THEIR LIQUOR BECAUSE WE HAVE NO SALES TAX. SO WHY IS EBAY CHARGING MY BUYERS SALES TAX BASES ON THEIR LOCATION? NH DOESN'T COLLECT SALES TAX.

When you sell to a state that collects sales tax...Tax is applied. When you sell to one with no tax applied...IE NH. No tax is applied. That's how it works for me as a Canadian seller. Not happy about it but nothing I can do or say will change it. Now if the policy could be updated to correct tax exempt products or products with reduced tax rates, major woohoo and thumbs up!!

Sales tax is based on the location that the item is shipped to. eBay collects the appropriate sales tax and sends it to that state. Buyers who have their items shipped to NH are not charged sales tax, even when the seller is in a state that charges sales tax.
