Hello
SOLD Expensive item to new user 1 FEEDBACK . I need protection HELP!! $1200 concern
I have been selling on eBay for quite sometime now. I have been fortunate enough to be able to make some pretty good sales to new buyers without having a fraud or some crazy loss.
Well I have just sold a tapestry to a new buyer that has 1 feedback and that feedback came from which is automatic when a buyer pays for one of my items.
I am wondering what I can do to protect myself and the item I just sold from being scammed or what ever else can happen from a bogus buyer.
The tapestry I just sold went for $1200 and I can not afford to end up eating this item and loosing it and the sell all together.
What can I do to guarantee that I get covered before shipping this?
Thanks

There is nothing you can do .... except may pray.
As i'm sure you know 99% of ebay transactions go off without any problem.
Once in a while you will get a scammer or a liar who will rip you off. Ebay will always side with the buyer. The seller always looses. The only sure fire way of not being ripped off is by not selling.
There is a unwritten rule amongst ebay sellers ... don't sell anything on ebay that you can't afford to lose.
Good luck and stay safe!

Mail it with signature confirmation.

There is no way to completely protect yourself, but I'd video the entire packing process - from item review, to packing, to label printing, to drop at the post office.

The one thing I can think of came from another eBay seller who sold expensive items and what she said she was going to start doing after a buyer tried to scam her.
Video non-stop the item; the item with any serial number being placed in the package/box; the box being sealed; the shipping label showing yours and the buyer's name and address; the tracking number and finally the package being handed to the shipping carrier. It is important that the video be non-stop because if an issue arises the buyer can claim that during the video was stopped the item could have been removed from the package and a different item substituted.
If the item is small enough you can take it to the post office or carrier's place of business with you and follow all the steps above. If the item is too big/bulky to carry to the post office then perhaps you can arrange for carrier pick up and follow the steps above and video the package being handed to the carrier.
And as justsharingourtreasures said, request signature confirmation!!!!!!!!!!
This is a lot of work but just in case the buyer claims the box/package was empty or they received an entirely different item than what was shipped you will have proof and it won't be another case of he said/she said.
For future reference another alternative is to let a reputable third party company sell expensive items and pay a commission to them once they sell the item .

Dear
You can't do anything because EBAY doesn't accept any proofs they just ignore them the only thing they trust is the buyers word
The best you can do if a problem appears accept a return NEVER BUT NEVER ASK EBAY TO STEP IN
Best regards

In case of a dispute, does not accept/consider/view any video evidence you may have.

To ease your mind a little, I have sold high priced items to buyers with zero feedback before with no problems at all. It could be they saw your tapestry and decided they had to have it and registered for the first time. It's not the kind of item that would attract many scammers for a quick turnaround, but seems to be more of an item that a serious collector would want to buy.
Just make sure the money is really in your Paypal account, Paypal says it's okay to ship, and it's insured with signature confirmation. Then hope for the best. I know it's scary to sell to a new buyer, but eBay gives us no way to restrict these sales. I've always felt they should give us the option to not allow buyers with low feedback to purchase anything with a value over $500, but I don't think that's going to happen. In the future, the only other option you have is to sell at a local auction that is insured for fraud, but then you lose total control of the selling price. You have to balance what's more important to you.
Good luck. I hope it works out for you. Please post back and let us know how it all works out.

Have seen this suggestion before and it does sound good. But it's a waste of time. In case a buyer opens an item not received case, or an item not as described case, eBay will side with the buyer every time regardless of your video proof. And, honestly, how does a video of the packing process etc prove anything? I can video the item etc and then mail an entirely different package or mail an empty package. See what I mean?

This would not be for eBay but a police/legal case or a case opened with USPS authorities. I know eBay does not accept anything other than the word of a buyer even if the buyer is a scam artist. The USPS can conduct investigations (mail fraud is a federal offense) so that would be proof in an investigation like that.
When a buyer knows you have video proof of what was shipped to them then many of them will back off of their fraudulent claim. Many scam artist buyers are looking to get low-risk "free" items and not trying to risk being charged and convicted (a federal crime at that) for mail fraud.

My first purchase on ebay was very expensive and the seller almost had a heart attack, I had 0 feedback. Seller was very worried, so he asked if I could pay cash and if he could deliver the item to me in person, ( we were both In London ) I said yes. When the seller delivered the item, he showed me how to leave positive feedback because he was worried I would leave a neg by mistake. I found it amusing because I knew the seller was worrying for no reason..
Hopefully your transaction will go smoothly.

Those were great suggestions with the videos used in a court of law. Most scammers want and easy target. It would behoove them to stay out of an legal proceedings so they can continue their scams. There is no recourse here on this website if you get a scamming customer. The only recourse is for top rated sellers who offer free returns and then you can deduct up tp 50 percent off the refund. Even then, these lovely people can probably try a chargeback for the rest of it.

As one Nevadian to another, signature required, I don't believe this item (a tapestry) is on top of a scammers list, so ship it well protected and I would let buyer know when it has been mailed, carrier info, tracking number what the carrier looked like and what he had for lunch! Good luck to you and let us know how it turns out!

Only useful with a valid impartial wittiness to follow along through all of it with out the item and box ever leaving their sight until possession is given to the shipper.
Oh and that will kill any thing you have,
because you can not prove what the shipper did or did not do.
Registered mail might work for them small items...
