EVERYONE HAS IT WRONG. EBAY IS CHARGING SELLERS FEES ON TOP OF WHAT THE PRODUCT SELLS FOR. EX, YOU SELL AN ITEM FOR $100.00.. IF TAX TO THAT STATE IS 10% EBAY ADDS THAT COST INTO THE TOTAL VALUE. NOW YOUR ITEM IN THEORY SOLD FOR $110.00. THEN IF YOU ITEM COST FOR SHIPPING IS $10.00, EBAY ADDS THAT INTO THE TOTAL SALE. THUS YOU ARE NOW AT $120.00
SO EBAY IS ARTIFICIALLY INFLATING YOUR SALE PRICE. WHY ARE WE PAYING FEES ON $120.00? WHEN OUR ITEM SOLD FOR $100.00? BECAUSE ITS EBAYS PLATFORM AND UNTIL THERE IS BETTER COMPETITION WE WILL SUFFER.
ON TOP OF THAT, EBAY NOW CHARGES U A PROMOTIONAL FEE RATE. THAT RATE CAN BE ANYWHERE FROM 2-20% ON TOP OF THE FEES EBAY ALREADY CHARGES.

I don't do free shipping too often and I get about 85-90% of the sell price. I used promoted like once and it didn't speed anything up. I come and lurk this forum a few times a week just to read salt posts about people who think free shipping means they get all the money and then they get upset when they have to pay for the shipping. just do some math. the amount of people who have multi year accounts here that are getting upset about their 30-40% fees need to factor in shipping or something. anyway i'm sure there will be more posts on this exact same issue because there are always posts about this. i'd figure after a few years of selling you would have some clue about how much shipping costs and what percentage you'll lose to fees but there will be more posts on this tomorrow lol.

SELL THEM ITEM FOR 10% LESS SO YOU DO NOT PAY AN EXTRA 10% ITS NOT THAT HARD TO FIGURE OUT IF YOU DONT WANT TO PAY THAT EXTRA 10%. DO NOT USE THE PROMOTIONS OPTION IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO PAY AN EXTRA FEE FOR THAT FEATURE. ITS NOT THAT HARD TO TO.

The overall fees for sellers are so high that it's not profitable anymore to run a business selling through ebay. They take an average of 93% of my profits, and I can't just sell for higher prices because then I don't get reliable sales. It's just corporate greed screwing us all as usual. Beware that most of the replies are bots and boot-lickers too.

Or, to put a realistic spin on it: To rob sellers blind and make as much money for shareholders as possible. Corporate greed. Simple.

Their fees are also extortionately high, which is the real issue. When their fees make up above 90% of the profits your work generates, it's basically highway robbery, except they own the highway.

Ebay hasn't raised their fees in a long time. You are in the UK and I'm unsure of your fee structure. But here in the USA, the majority of categories carry a 13.25% FVF and a 30 or 40 cent per transaction fee.
I'm not aware of anywhere on Ebay where there is a 93% FVF by Ebay. I think you are adding in your other costs like shipping, the cost of the product, etc. into the number you are blaming Ebay for. Ebay is ONLY responsible for the FEES THEY charge you. Not carrier costs or anything else. Nor does Ebay get that money.
You need to look at the pricing you set on your items as well as your cost to ship and source your products. That is where your problem is, not Ebay's fees.

Yet, they aren't doing that. You are blaming Ebay for all your costs, not just for the fees they charge you. You are the only one that can resolve your issue as I outlined in my previous post.

You need to visit the Selling fees page for the UK. It doesn't say what you have said.
Fees when your item sells (transaction fees) | |
Final value fee | 12.8% of the total amount of the sale + 30p per order* (free for clothes listings) |
Regulatory operating fee | 0.42% of the total amount of the sale (free for clothes listings) |
Clearly you have an issue in how you price your items for covering all your costs of sales. You can try finding different sources for the items you sell in the hopes of getting a lower price. That would likely help you.

No offense but this made me laugh out loud.
Given that you signed on the dotted line to sell here, you are aiding and abetting the "extortion."
"When their fees make up above 90% of the profits MY work generates, it's basically highway robbery, except they own the highway."
Fixed your sentence. Except its operator error, not highway robbery.

"The overall fees for sellers are so high that it's not profitable anymore FOR ME to run a business selling through ebay."
Fixed another sentence for you.
Incidentally, your fees are the same as mine, yet I am doing pretty darn well.
I buy for $3 and on average re-sell for $49. All my fees are paid by the buyer.
As for "boot lickers and bots", I have found that those are the words of a person with little capacity for self-criticism.
It could not possibly be any shortcomings on your part, is that what we are to conclude?
With that attitude, it's no surprise you are failing here.

Yes, I see. But does that really matter?
There are always people who will make an appearance on an old thread with asinine observations that require correction.
And many people, like me, always are learning, even from old threads.
