Ridiculous that I have to wait 7 days to leave a Neg or Neutral for a seller

If a seller cancels for out of stock (aka didn't get enough $ for auction in this case), buyers should not have to wait 7 days to be able to leave a neutral or negative.

I might have left a neutral, but now that I have to stew about it for a week, she'll probably get a well deserved negative.

I bid 2x on this auction just in case I wouldn't be online when it ended, but I was online and paid right away. I really wanted these items.

If ANY seller cancels for out of stock, buyers should be able to post negative feedback without having to wait 7 days.

Am I off base on this? Why make the buyer wait?

I think what some sellers feel is that, even though the seller may have lowered the price, not all sellers go and inspect each item when a listing has finished and it just relisted.  She may have sold it and not remembered or realized that it was THAT piece she sold.

Just a thought, though.  Smiley Happy

This is true, but it wasn't just an individual item.   At some point during the month that it was listed she had a garage sale and sold the lot? And didn't remember? My gut says that's not very likely, even though I usually give people the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe what really bothers me is the way she handled it. A curt message with the refund and that was all.

Still, eBay pestering me to leave feedback every time I check my summary page isn't helping either. thinking

LOL We're just talking about feedback, not corporal punishment. Perspective people, perspective!

Yes, lets gets some perspective here.

So, you have to wait 7 days to neg a seller?

Worse things than that can happen in life.

I think you should forget all about it, you will feel better.

My perspective.

To which eBay policy are you referring?

I would expect a neg for cancelling a sale without trying to make nice with the buyer before hand.

I'm just saying that with the out of stock cancellation being such an egregious infraction in eBay's eyes, I'm surprised they make unhappy buyers wait a week in these cases to leave less than positive feedback. Buyers want their items, not excuses.

The 7 days is the cooling off period,

but you could cool off right now, forget it, and have a good weekend instead. Smiley Happy

Another buyer for my BBL.

Glad you don't buy from me and I am sure you won't buy from many others after they have read this thread.

That is my perspective and opinion.

"She only has a couple dozen household, collectible, and clothing items listed."

How do you know that is the seller's only account?  I have seen several sellers mention that they have multiple selling accounts.

Maybe this seller has multiple accounts on E-bay to sell from.  Each one for distinct items......maybe they have 100s of items listed that you don't know about.

How do you know the seller isn't cross selling on multiple platforms?  Very well could have tried to increase exposure on other sites to sell quicker, better price or some other reason.   Granted they should be vigilant in keeping track of those things so an item that has already been sold doesn't sell again somewhere else.

Now you have every right to leave any feedback you choose based on your experience, but you say you sell here as well.....perhaps it would be prudent to remember that when one of your buyer's jumps to conclusions and berates you and leaves negative feedback.

I think @myescape  is referring to your statement in the OP "I might have left a neutral, but now that I have to stew about it for a week, she'll probably get a well deserved negative." referring to you increasing your aggression towards the buyer due to a policy the seller doesn't control.

It would be a more productive cooling off period if eBay didn't remind me of the sale by prompting me to leave feedback every time I turned around. grimacing  They'll still be asking me on Monday.

I hadn't considered multiple accounts. You are correct. Thank you for adding that to the list of possibilities.

If this ever happened to me, I would be proactive and contact the buyer before unceremoniously refunding. I've left positive feedback in the past for sellers who made an effort even though they also had to cancel sales. But poor customer service is one reason I will leave negatives. Irresponsible sellers are hurting the rest of us.

Wow. You come across as vindictive and petty. People make mistakes. Just because a seller only has a ‘few dozen items’ listed doesn’t mean they’re trying to scam you. You have no idea what other responsibilities this person has in their life or what they may have going on that caused them to space out and not realize they no longer had this item.

Buyers like you are what’s making eBay unbearable for sellers. I’ve ordered online from major retailers and had my order cancelled after I paid because an item was out of stock. IT HAPPENS. You’d have no option to leave those businesses ‘negative’ feedback but here you wield it as a weapon of destruction and pettiness. It’s that mentality among buyers that festers here and has become an infection.

Seriously. Just get over it. I am sure that if you had made the same mistake as the seller you would hope for some level of gracefulness from the buyer. At the end of the day, it’s just STUFF. You didn’t lose any money. Maybe you were inconvenienced a little but certainly not worth this level of vitriol.

Did you ever think that the seller is truthful, and you are the one OVER REACTING. Did you even try to find out if your seller's stock will be replenished, and your order fulled upon request? Did you ever think your accusations are totally incorrect and uncalled for?

Try to communicate with your seller for a mutual resolve rather a HATE session....and yes, I am over 21..

Just saying:)

Touche, good point. I've been there. I bought a 2k item from a seller who cancelled immediately and said I requested it... when I did not. Safe to say I messaged the buyer to let them explain themselves. They weaved a tangled web (of deception) and I politely called them out on their lies. Safe to say I negged them, and they came back trying to bribe me. I refused, then they got nasty and lashed out with much vulgarity
