So, i have a new item i posted up today but when i do a search for it, mine does not come up.

It has the same words as another seller and still does not show up.

search: Legendary fantastic four (you get other sellers)

now, if i search Marvel fantastic four legendary then i show up.

I dont understand why i dont show up with fantastic four legendary?

Re: Riddle me this on a Search

a new item i posted up today

EBay tells us it may take up to 24 hours for a new listing to index.

Every time I Search for items that have more than 100 similar items listed, I get a slightly different mix .

Remember that there are supposed to be 140 million different items listed on eBay at any given moment.

Possibly the Search shows a slightly different assortment with each Search.

In any case, it sounds as if your item is indexed and is showing among those of your competitors.

Re: Riddle me this on a Search

You're right.

You came up under  "Marvel Legendary fantastic four"

but not "Legendary fantastic four".

Try it again tomorrow and let us know what happened.

Re: Riddle me this on a Search

Dhbooks is correct. You have your item in the "other" category so it will not show up as Marvel which is the word 99% of buyers would search.  You should change the title to have Marvel show first on the title line and change the category that others are using and do not use the "generic" category.

Re: Riddle me this on a Search

I've always found it amazing that you can search using the precise wording of the title and the listing isn't found.  Sometimes the gods of eBay, especially the one called Casini, are petty and cruel.

Re: Riddle me this on a Search

Let me throw my 2 cents in on this too....  I've discovered what you enter in the pulldown description area for "brand" (or whatever depending on the category) can affect you in a search in odd ways.  On one of my accounts that sells a specific hobby item I actually do better by putting the 4 letter acronym commonly used for the hobby IN FRONT of the brand.  Crazy but Ebay's game so.....I found this by experimenting with searches using the app and seeing the wording in the faint "brand new" line under each title.  By manipulating this field I'm getting higher placement lately.  Anyone else try this?

Re: Riddle me this on a Search

I noticed a very similar pattern with a listing of mine a few weeks ago.  I forget what it was and the specifics but was very surprised it didn't show up on the main search words of X-Y-Z.  Just didn't show up at all despite have that clearly written in the beginning of my title.  However when I typed in A X-Y-Z it showed up. "A" was just an extra descriptive word that I used in the title but without searching with the A you wouldn't find my listing.  Who in the world knows why Cassini does what it does.

Exactly.  Makes me think sometimes the searchs pull from item specifics first and the actual listing title second...if that makes sense

@solarshift7  Could be they are pulling from them first  -- however, still leaves me mystified as I always fill out all my specifics.

Re: Riddle me this on a Search

Just for info............I think the OP's problem is due to impicit category navigation.........as explained in the last message on this page.....

Re: Riddle me this on a Search

implicit category navigation is costing sellers AND EBAY a ton of money. I don't know why they think showing buyers only partial search results is financially smart.

Did you read the OP?

It does come up when searched with Marvel, and doesn't if they don't include it.

And yes, the stupid implicit category navigation is costing sellers $$. There isn't a real search engine in the world that would eliminate the OP's listing when searching for fewer words. Only here, where someones poor programming decides what you see.
