Return shipping cost for a free shipping item

My understanding is that eBay will not charge you more for a shipping label than you charged the buyer for shipping if they make a claim and return the product

in other words if I charge $15 for shipping the return label will not cost me more than $15

my question is if I sell something with free shipping to the buyer

and they make a claim

and return the product with an eBay provided shipping label 

how much will ebay charge for that shipping label?

Ebay will usually use the same service you used to do the free shipping.

Seller pays the same "shipping amount" for item returned.   EBAY has a special contract for "returned packages" (customer can put item in any size package and even if it weighs more Seller will only be charged amount of "original shipping label").

If you offer free shipping, it won't be free to return.

How much did it cost you to ship the item, the return shipping should be around the same amount.

If you offer free shipping and your buyer files a SNAD return you will be paying the return costs. There is no such thing as free shipping. Someone pays the shipping.

I offer free shipping but I incorporate the cost of shipping into the price of my items so my buyer pays shipping costs.

It is not the amount you charged your buyer it's the amount you paid to ship the order.
