Return requested - Reason: Just didn't like it; Comments: Not what I thought it would be

I am Top Seller Plus, therefore we do accept returns. This item was $140, and cost me 30.25 to ship because I offer free shipping. It's an air mattress, and the buyer now seems to have buyers remorse. I'm wondering if any of you have insight into this type of situation, or should I just accept the return and hope the air mattress is still in good shape when I get it back. Appreciate your responses.

The reason the buyer chooses, hardly matters. If you want the item back before refunding, accept the return and provide the return shipping label though eBay will probably do that for you since you offer free returns on this item.

Sometimes returning the item is too much of a hassle for the buyer and I do not hear from them again.

Unfortunately here is not possible to make partial as on Amazon.

"Just didn't like it" don't covers shipping cost, buyer must pay for shipping to him and back to you.

You need to speak with the client, provide him invoice (shipping cost you paid).

If buyer agree to cover it, you can make partial refund via PayPal.

I eBay case was opened, there will be only one option - Full Refund.

Anyway you can escalate case to eBay or you can make a claim on buyer.

Claim on buyer: ebay.com/sellerhelp/rab/

After receiving item back make a claim with option:  Buyer misused returns>Returned an item after they opened, used, or damaged it

I don't understand why there is any question.

You said "We accept returns"

The buyer wants to return.

Accept the return.  When the customer sends it back,  refund them.

Don't need to provide return shipping label.

Seller will be charged twice.

Buyer must send it on his expense.

P.S. this is not Defect or Not as described

The seller offers free returns.  The seller pays for the returns.

If the seller offers free returns, then buyers expect to be able to return the item at the seller's expense.  I don't know why this seller is questioning it at all.  The seller gets the Top Rated Plus seal because he promises to offer free returns.  He can't change his mind when someone actually takes him up on it.

it really is not complicated Just accept the return and wait for the item .  I do not issue any shipping refunds unless the issue is my fault

Re: Return requested - Reason: Just didn't like it; Comments: Not what I thought it would be

I think it's not fair, seller paid for shipping to client and back only due Just didn't like it

According eBay rules:

Who pays for return shipping?

The seller pays for return shipping if they offer a free returns policy or if the item was damaged, faulty, or doesn’t match the listing description.

You pay for return shipping if you returning the item because you changed your mind, and the seller return policy states that buyers are responsible for return shipping.

Re: Return requested - Reason: Just didn't like it; Comments: Not what I thought it would be

Thank you everyone for your quick responses. I realize the answer was most likely just accept it, but I was hoping an option of buyer's remorse or just didn't like it would require the buyer to pay the shipping to return it. But, alas, I agreed to the terms and will abide by them. I like calntom's response because it reminded me to wait on the refund until I receive the item. I have had people not return the item before, so the return window expired. That may happen this time.

Re: Return requested - Reason: Just didn't like it; Comments: Not what I thought it would be

it happens, I also offer listings TRP and have free returns, it sucks when it happens but for the amount that has been returned (2 items in 3 years) it's not so bad. You wait til you get item back, then inspect, if something is wrong with it, not in the condition you sent it in, you are allowed to give 50% refund... according to ebay anyways, never had issue, items were always returned to me as they left here so i don't really have any advice for you if you get item back and it's not in condition you sent it, or if it's not the item you send (the old switch 'er rue scam).

Read the first sentence in the request, that's not what was said.

Of course it is fair--that's how it works.  If you offer free returns and benefit by doing so, you can't change the rules after the fact.  If it doesn't work out financially to do so, then don't offer free returns.   Many sellers that offer free returns don't also offer free initial shipping, since you don't have to refund that on remorse returns if shipping was a separate charge.   In this case, though, all shipping both ways is on the seller.

Re: Return requested - Reason: Just didn't like it; Comments: Not what I thought it would be

If the listing had not been 'free shipping' and the buyer paid a separate price for the shipping, you would be able to hold back the original shipping cost so you wouldn't be out quite as much. When listing heavier/bigger items you might want to charge for shipping instead of including it in the item cost.

Re: Return requested - Reason: Just didn't like it; Comments: Not what I thought it would be

Running into a similar issue myself selling air mattresses. Just removed all our listings in order to change them all to “no returns”.  If you do some research online you’ll find that air mattresses almost always lose air from one night to the next. So most people don’t understand this and want a refund or return for a defective item when it’s not actually defective.

This is why all the big box stores no longer accept returns on them and will only do an exchange.  So I guess that’s your other option too.
