I sold a new item that was sealed in the box. The buyer said they had it for ten minutes and now it doesn’t work. They didn’t make any demands, but I apologized and ask them to return for a full refund (did I do that right?). Anyway, they wrote back and asked me to send a return label. They have yet to open any kind of case and I would prefer to keep it that way so I don’t get a defect. I offer buyer pays returns, but it sounds like this person wants me to pay shipping it back. So my main question is is there a way to approve a return label paid for by me without asking them to open a return case? Thanks for any help.

No. Advise the buyer to open a INAD case thru the resolution center found at the bottom of this page. The reason for the return would be, item doesn't work. You will be charged for the return label.

You need to provide the return label for it to be a full refund. Buyer needs to open a return case, you approve and provide a return label, don't worry about defects in this case, you can't just tell the buyer to return and hope they will.

The buyer has to open a return request in order for you to be able to issue a return label.
