I don't know about other sellers, but I am not some large corporate retail store that can afford returns just because a buyer doesn't like the item.
Sure, I agreed to the policy in order to maintain my Top Rated seller status, but these ridiculous buyers returning an order for no other reason than didn't like or they changed their mind hurts our bottom line.
I believe eBay should not offer returns for the three highlighted reasons, as it should be upon the buyer to due their due diligence before they buy.
With eBay already taking 13.25% + $0.30 for most listings, it really makes it a challenging platform to sell most anything and turn a profit. These return only contributes to the loss of profit, since we sellers are faced with the return shipping fees in most cases.

All the buyer would have to do is check a reason like “another as described” or similar, and they would still send it back. I do not refund original shipping for a discretionary return. I do understand. Hate returns.

It's fine that you feel that way, but YOU decided to accept such returns.
If you feel you are getting too many of these returns, opt out of free returns.
Accepting free returns has it's advantages and disadvantages.
This is one of the disadvantages.

If you remove those categories then all the buyer has to do is say "doesn't match description" Now the seller is charged shipping for the item going and coming back. Under the reasons for return that you highlighted I can deduct the first shipping charge which the buyer pays. I would rather pay 1 shipping charge than 2.

The only time I have had a return, it was for a "Doesn't fit" (same as don't like it as far as I'm concerned)
They shipped it back, I refunded them the price - shipping and ALL my fees were refunded to me.
So, I don't see that as losing money.
Plus, I relisted the item and raised the price by $2.00 and sold it again. 😄

YOU offered free returns, and anyone that takes you up on that offer is ridiculous? You don’t even need to accept all returns to be TRS.

Yes, as you may have missed in my OP, I have agreed to the terms in order to maintain my Top Rated seller status, so I am agreeing in protest.
I've had buyers return hygiene products after opening them, so when they get returned, I've lost out on the possibility to resell again, yet I can only get 50% back...that's not right. I don't recall seeing an option to not accept these types of returns.

No, the OP cannot deduct the original shipping because the OP chose to offer "free" shipping. @gwens*4saleitems* , you charge separately for shipping so for your returns, you aren't obligated to refund the original shipping on a remorse return.
In this case, the buyer can return at his (buyer's) own expense but with free shipping, the seller can't deduct that cost.

top rated does not require "free returns" .
"free returns" if you want the 10% FVF reduction that is for top rated -plus. (is it worth that 10% perk? only you know by checking your #'s)
"free returns" does not have to be applied to every listing.
don't want to pay the return shipping, then just accept returns with ----- buyer pays shipping
don't want a return on hygiene products............... no returns on those.

It's a decision every seller has to make based on what they sell and their own return rate. You can be a TRS without offering free returns or returns at all, you just can't get the 10% fvf discount unless you offer free returns. If the math isn't working in your favor offering free returns, then rethink doing that.
Most of my returns are for remorse, and I don't loss out on the shipping because I don't offer free returns, just a 30 day returns with buyer paying. I'm a TRS, though.

I have these all through the year and when I get the item back I raise the price usually. I had one come back recently with a fake it was scratched return. Put it back up for 20 bucks more and it sold the same day. Buyer loved it and no such false not as decribed complaint from them as a matter of fact they contacted me and wanted another one like it for their friend but we were out of stock. I factor these return costs on us by raising the prices periodically in small increments each year to cover this. I hate the returns too with a passion like no other.

Regardless, shipping - free shipping that's not the point. The highlighted items are remorse reasons (where is OP saying they use free shipping?) and remorse reasons should be paid by the buyer.
**From the OP "With eBay already taking 13.25% + $0.30 for most listings, it really makes it a challenging platform to sell most anything and turn a profit. These returns only contributes to the loss of profit, since we sellers are faced with the return shipping fees in most cases."**
Point is, after the refund, the fact that THE FINAL VALUE FEES AND THE .30 PROCESSING FEE WAS REFUNDED back to me. So, you don't lose anything on it.
