Restocking fee question #2

Hi all, I posted a previous question about restocking fee and you told me I couldn't do it.

However, I have a return that went out February 14 and today 3/26 she wants to return it.  I approved the return, but am wondering if I can charge a restocking fee.  And should I let her know I am returning only (80% ) a portion of her refund?

She doesn't need it.  The return window closed March 14.

In your original post in this thread you say " I have a return that went out February 14 and today 3/26 she wants to return it" and now you say the return closed March 14th"

Why create this thread when the case closed a week ago? Subject seems moot to me.

OP said return window, not return case. I think they are saying that they were the nice guy and accepted the return despite the perceived return window being closed.

It's past the 30 day guarantee and you sell clothes. I would not accept it.

Why would you not accept it?

What does the 30 day guarantee and the fact that it might be clothing have to do with this?

Restocking fee question #2

I DID THE RETURN AS A COURTESY!  Okay, I have my answer.  I'll list a  higher price on it to cover the return.

Good, a courtesy like this in my opinion should not be a "courtesy" but rather a feature of your customer service.

I have never understood the penchant of some sellers to want to punish buyers because of a missed return deadline.

Why risk the negative feedback, especially over something so trivial?

If the item is returned in the same condition as you shipped it, you can always resell it.

Although (no offense) I do wonder about your margins if you have to raise the price to cover a return.

I follow the 30 day statute of limitations (and yes I risk the chargeback) for items that are personalized or customized. Some of the things I sell are customized to order and are virtually worthless to me once they are made. Even if I receive the item back in pristine condition, who else is going to buy a sign that says "Happy Anniversary Kanye and Kim. May 24, 2014"? When I honor MBG returns for these they go into the trash when I receive them back, they are too unique to be resold to anyone else.

Why not?

Clothing!  Wear it for the reason purchased, and return/request to return. Near free rental.

The answer is still no.  Ebay does NOT allow restocking fees and haven't for a very long time.  If you try to get creative in how you do this and get caught, it will only get you into trouble with Ebay.  This is just something we are not allowed to do.  Besides, you can't really afford any more negative feedback.  And if you email your buyer of what your intent is, you would likely get another one.

When was the Feb 14th order received by the buyer.  You may be outside the 30 day window in which the buyer can file for a return.

Restocking fee question #2

@liawri-75

I'm wondering why you are choosing to sell a lot of your clothing items at auction.  You are selling clothing which is one of the most saturated items on eBay and other venues.  Auctions are, for the most part, useful only for unique, high-demand, highly-collectible, or unusual items.  Buyers are not going to get into a bidding frenzy over a sweater or pair of pants.

Buyers of clothing want immediate gratification (to buy it now and have it shipped quickly, not have to bid on an item and wait a week for the auction to end).   That is why so many of your auctions only get one or zero bids.  If you are trying to sell, for example, a black hoodie in size L, if you look at the listings on eBay you will probably find dozens, if not hundreds, of similar listings.  Why would someone bid on your auction for one when there are so many others that they can buy it right now?  You would be better off and probably your sales would improve (and you would avoid those negatives for cancelling orders for which you did not get the money you wanted) if you would just price everything as fixed price listings.

Update 3/29:  Customer wanted to know when EB would send her a prepaid label.  I told her she would have to pay the postage to send back.

What is EB?

eBay says to make sure to spell their name correctly. eBay-not EBay or ebay. Or in your caes, not EB.
