Responding to negative feedback.

I've had a handful of negative feedback in my 20+ years on ebay.

I know it's not the end of the world, but this one really makes me and the product look bad.

Of course it was left without contacting me first.

I already reached out to the buyer with an apology.

I already refunded the buyer in full.

I already submitted a very kind feedback revision request.

I'm just waiting to see how that turns out.

I'm just thinking about how i'm going to respond to this negative  I welcome any suggestions.

This is what i've got so far. I'm just wondering how to piece it together,

what to add, what to leave in and what to leave out.

"I'm sorry about the issue with your item."

"I wish you would have contacted me that there was a problem before leaving this feedback."

"I've sold hundreds of these without any problem or complaint."

"I've issued you a full refund including shipping."

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

I wish we could click on the buyer. Are you the only one they did that to?

Many sellers look at the feedback buyers leave others as well as the responses if ever evaluating whether to send expensive items.

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

buyer hopefully does agree to revision request, but if they don't your planned reply is perfect.

Sorry this happened.

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

You need to call and speak with someone to get this neg removed. Explain you have multiples of this item and show or tell them how other buyers thought not such thing.  COVID is known to mess with people's smelling abilities.  If you sell this at any other venue, you may want to provide proof there has been no issues there too.

My completed items show I sell one item, however, it is multiples so the amount that shows is very low. Ebay is cutting their own throat preventing you from selling your #1 money maker.

Keep calling ebay until you get a real person. Somehow try to find the section which reads you want to add a checking account to your ebay store, it will finally show the ability to call them or they'll call you back within so many minutes. Good luck

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

I speak from experience with my advice, forgot to mention that. I've had success getting negs removed for items i can prove are good. Simply by showing my 100% at another venue and screenshots of all of my sales of that same product.  However they don't even want to hear it now, just take my word for it.

Both of these could be interpreted as ducking the real complaint. Wouldn't use them.

"I'm sorry about the issue with your item."

I think "I'm sorry it was not to your liking" would be more neutral turning away that there was "an issue".

I've issued you a full refund including shipping."

That's a keeper.

We are all familiar with the line "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I guess a corollary would be "scent is in the nose of the beholder". Although I am not sure how you would work that one in. I have on occasion dealt with a woman who really likes her perfume and it makes me want to wretch.

Great question.

I'm the only negative feedback that buyer left.

So I guess his complaint is legit.

Smells (and tastes) can be somewhat subjective.

100 people can smell/taste something and not everyone is going to agree it's good or bad.

It's just such a bummer when they don't contact the seller first.

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

If I were to respond it would be....

"what do you expect? It's from Paris!" or maybe "only Jean Patou can create such a fragrance!"

Just kidding..........

I usually find myself with one neg or neut showing, they go away and then I get hit with another. I gave up responding to them years ago, I don't think there is much point especially once it goes off the first page.

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

Maybe you could go this route:

We are sorry that the perfume we sent smelled like rotting animal carcasses. Rest assured we let the Perfume company know that you were nauseated by the smell of their award-winning perfume. We have reimbursed you in full.

or slap them upside the head and say, "what did you expect for less than 10 bucks"!

Don't let it bring you down, it is only castles burning.

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

A key aromatic element of Joy is civet, which if you’ve ever smelled the pure stuff is pretty close to a year old cat litter box that’s never been cleaned.  Maybe the buyer is sensitive to raunchy kitty cat scents.  But civet is frequently used as a base ingredient in high-end lux women’s fragrances.

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

Perhaps you should view the FB comment as an opinion product review, and not a comment that implied you sent him/her a defective product.  A response might be, “I am so sorry you didn’t love Joy, it is one of our most popular fragrances”.

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

Personally I see that feedback statement as invalid and unfair.  I'm not sure that I would care.  My only response would be that if they were unhappy with their purchase they should have contacted you for a return.  You do not manufacture the product, ant not every person is going to like the scent.

I think this reply is my favourite, I would probably use it myself.

Re: Responding to negative feedback.

Your candidates for a rebuttal, are pretty much the standard reponses I see on other sellers non-positive feedback left. Maybe you should just own the issue, and say hey, great fragrances are like a great wine.... occasionally, a bottle goes bad (which is the truth). Maybe loosely build a response around something like that. I think that when a seller [in some way] lets the buyer know that they don't think they're crazy, or totally off the beam, in their thinking, can really help with their return attitude. Of course It's have no idea the production date of the example you sold, but the norm is that a perfume has a three to five year shelf life ( depending on ...)can-perfume-expire-1.png, before it can start to get funky.
